I don't think this problem is any worse in Houston. It's a huge problem everywhere. It seems to be from the crowd that thinks they are there to be part of the event, even though they had to buy a ticket to get in. It's the ones that grew up with reality TV and shock radio, and think that if you get on TV or radio it is the pinnacle of life. It is a level of moron only slightly below the actual morons who populate the reality shows. If some senior citizens started popping these morons in the mouth at these tournaments, it would stop real quick. But that's just the thing...the seasoned folks won't do it, because they observe standards of decorum. And so these jerks proliferate.

I gotta believe that if the crowd shouted "SHUT THE F*CK UP!" every time one of these numbnuts yelled "Get in the hole" or "Baba booey" the problem would soon disappear, as the broadcasts would be forced to delay the telecast by a few seconds, and beep out the crowd.

All these ignorant posts from idiots. Don't let a few people ruin the reputation of an entire city. Houston is one of the most diverse cities in the country. It was the first major US city to elect an openly gay (lesbian) mayor. They did it THREE f*****g TIMES in a row too boot. Just like most places there are nice parts of the city and not so nice parts.

 

FYI, the tournaments isn't even in Houston. It is about 30mins north of the city. Everyone on here needs to keep there ill-informed mouths shut.

I have a theory about the "get in the hole guy". It's universally known the first time this jackass showed up was during the 1962 US Open at Oakmont. The local yinzers crawled out of their soot covered shanties and came out in droves to support their local hero Arnie. Everything was going fine until that fat kid from Ohio decided to play his way into a playoff with their boy. The amount of idiocy shown during that playoff was appalling.. even by todays standard. They yelled, called Jack names, held up signs, coughed during his back swing.. none of these things had ever been seen or heard at a golf tournament before. Arnie was embarrassed to say the least and this behavior had the opposite effect I believe. It threw Mr Palmer off his game and he ultimately lost. But instead of these "people" learning from this mistake it actually sparked something in their little pea brains. Let's make sporting events about us they thought (just go to a Pens game in Pittsburgh, you'll see). So, as the years passed and the mills closed they had to move about the country looking for work. Some of them were able to scrape a few dollars together to attend golf tournaments in their new towns. They took their little evil Steeler babies with them and passed this boorish behavior on...and "get in the hole" was born... Don't believe me?.. next time you're fortunate enough to attend a golf tournament and someone yells "yaba dabba do", just go ask where their family is originally from.. or just look for the Steeler logo on their shirt, which they will most certainly be sporting..

It seemed like a lot of the yelling was coming from an adjacent hole rather than in the player's face. The announcers referenced that the yells stuck out because it was quiet otherwise. Even more distracting. I still think that they should kick the yellers and their friends that didn't restrain them off the property.

Wow. I've never heard of it. Maine is weird like that, though. Lots of TV shows pop in and out of here to shoot for programs. Like, Waterville, Maine had a day where they were shooting movie footage for some zombie flick or other. I think they shut off downtown and there was just this hoard of local volunteers done up in zombie make-up. Next day it was back to normal. The northeast corridor is more of a travel and trade route where trucking and shipping routes pass through Maine on the way to or from Canada or the north Atlantic.
