Redirect Issues

Recommended Posts

Well, here is tonight's redirect. To be honest it seemed to stop for a bit.

I am running OS X 10.12.1 on a MacBook Pro 13 inch Retina. I had this happen on Google Chrome but in the past it has also happened on Firefox. I am running Avira anti virus and WRX is the only site with this issue.

These are my only extensions:

This is a screen shot of the offending site with the address:

Definitely your site, since it only happens when I surf here. Windows 7 with Chrome, so it's not just Mac.

And yes, it's really annoying.

Does Clubwrx bypass the ads on this site. Because to prevent the popups from your f-ing advertisers, it would be worth it.

It is not malware. Period. It only happens on WRX and I have cleanly reinstalled my OS and built the apps from scratch (not restored from a back up) I also have anti-virus and malware protection installed.

Anyway, I have been away for a number of days due to Matthew and I come back tonight and am almost immediately redirected. Tonight's redirect is even more problematic because it never returned me to WRX but continued to redirect.

One of the solutions(?) I saw said something about clearing your Chrome cache.

Have you tried that ?

When you do a clean install of the OS and apps anything in the cache is deleted.

Are you sure ? When you do a clean install is your hard drive wiped of everything (other than the OS of course) ?

If not, when Chrome is re-installed, if those Chrome cache files are still on the hard drive Chrome can (will ?) re-access them, no ?

Did you check your (Chrome) cache after the re-install (of Chrome if not the entire system) ?

Yes, I'm sure. I spent 6 years programming for an Apple developer and even though that was some time ago I am pretty sure I understand how the cache on my machine works and how a clean install works.

how about a "chrome reset", the instructions are in that article I posted the link for before, tried that? (also instructions for internet explorer and firefox on there)

The link is for a Windows app.

is that whats been happening before, you are clicking 'links" and get what you call "popups"/ "redirects"?

there should be a 'continue to apple" link near the top, to go to the article

Nope. What is happening is as I navigate to a WRX page and as I am reading WRX content the page automatically redirects to a new site. There are no popups either.

The page you have linked (and an Apple support site should go directly to the discussion page, not a third party site - any redirect to a third party site is a local issue, not Apple) has a link to continue to Adidas:

And when I click the "Why are you seeing this link" I get this message:

Sorry. I was only a mainframe programmer for 35 years.

2 different things though and as far as PCs are concerned I'm only a bit more knowledgable than most newbies.

But what I DO know is if a file is left "out there" on the hard drive that even a newly loaded app (Chrome) goes looking for and finds, it'll use it.

I'll leave you be now.

Good luck

P.S. Strange thing though - that link to apple forums the Marshall gave you - I clicked on it and got a similar page as you did. Before I clicked I hovered on the link and in the lower left it showed the actual/real address of the apple forums but when I clicked on it got the same page YOU got. But I DID see a "Continue to Apple Forums" link which workd.

So I looked at the source of the present WRX page and the links shows exactly as the Marshall posted it and clicking on THAT link (in the page source) it went directly TO the Apple Forums.

Not sure what, if anything, this means.

Also, FWIW, *I* have adblocker active on my MAC.

Again, good luck.

@headonastick, ok i've got it, that is "normal" activity through a 3rd party, those links should be underscored/ double underscored i think.

There is a combination of different issues going on here, the "redirect" we are hunting for getting blocked, it seems to be a systamatic approach someone is taking, as i'm getting the things blocked and then they come in from another route source 9they will be doing this across other places as well). We have a 3rd party system that scans everything for this sort of thing, its picked up some, which have been blocked but then the route switches to "get around that block" ( or its been shut down, only for them to spin it up another way in) i presume. Multiple that out by X millions of ads to look through in each of dozens of providors and its a game of hunt the "source", prob some dude sat in a farm shed in the middle of "nowhere". i'm trying to identify them and get them shut down basically.

Adblocker is prob the short term answer

I didn't mean to put you off, I'm just frustrated (relatively, this is not a day ruining problem :) ). Sorry.

I zero'd the hard drive - its a flash drive actually and NOT my area of expertise (I worked with "old school" hard drives) but zeroing a drive should completely erase it regardless of whether it is an old fashioned hard drive or a modern SSD.

Interesting, I just clicked the link provided and as it loaded it the title said "Places just like Apple" and then it switched to the Adidas stuff.

I'll install ad blocker. Not as satisfying but if it works...
