Does anyone know, is the black lines on the face of the Origin line just paint or is it some kind of elastomer insert?

it's injected insert material --

Hello all,

I currently have a Nike Origin B2-01 counterflex 35 inch model. I happened to bend the shaft and need a replacement. Does anybody know what OD shaft is needed for this putter and if the counterflex grip can be removed and installed on another shaft? If so what is the best procedure for removal of the grip? Thanks for your help!

I can't provide answers to your two specific questions, but I can tell you that an actual replacement can by had right now by way of ebay. I had been in the market for an Origin Counterflex for a while and remember seeing at least two pulled Origin Counterflex shafts in my searches. If I recall correctly, one was listed at $35 and one was @ $40. I have no connection to, or affiliation with either of the sellers of these items and they may not even be still available as of this AM, but I have been following this thread and wanted to provide a response for your post. Best of luck to you. I'll be testing out my new Origins next week and will likely post my impressions in here...just to keep the thread alive :-)

Anyone know if the head weight for the counterflex models is any heavier than the non-counterflex?

I bought a counterflex model for the head because I got it cheap. According to the specs Nike put out, the counterflex models are supposed to be like 368 grams or something where the regular head was 345 grams. When I took the head off to put it on a regular shaft, it weighed at 345 grams. It’s possible my scale is off, but I also tested it by weighing a Superstroke Flatso which is supposed to be like 85 grams and it was spot on.

So to answer your question, I think it’s supposed to be, but mine wasn’t.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking of doing. What did you end up shafting it with?

I put the original shaft from my Method Matter in it. It was just a .370 True Temper putter shaft I think.

Got my B2-01 today, and I love it, but I don't love the grip.

Am I crazy for wanting to buy another putter shaft so I can regrip and not destroy the Lamkin "Origin" on it?

These may be collector items in the future, though they are not at the moment. I think it is only worth it if you are upgrading the putter shaft. It is always fun to tinker though.

anyone refinished an origin to a darker finish? or black?

Seems like you'd have to disassemble the putter to refinish it because of the RZN between the two layers

Speaking of removing the black color, does anyone know if one can safely remove the black paint fill in the sight line (like with acetone)? I'm worried about hurting the blue RZN stuff if I try it and was wondering if anyone else had tried it.

Typically, I would use some paint stripper to remove paint fill quickly, but i'd avoid using the serious stuff on these. I'd use acetone to remove the paint fill, but I wouldn't just dump it all over the putter, and I wouldn't let is sit too long. You should be ok to remove the paint fill though.

The B2-05 origins that CVhookem alerted us about (from Dallas Golf) were tour only and have a CH serial.

Thank you my good man -- i didn't know. appreciate it!

My naked Origin B2-05 actually has a PC serial. I like to think it was made for Paul Casey, or was at least given a PC serial because he preferred a naked flange and top line. He ended up gaming the B2-04. They had other versions with a sight line that it sounds like have the CH serial though.

A few questions:

1. Are all Origin models “Oven” putters? If not what is special about the Oven models and how do you locate them?

2. Considering the B2-04, B2-05 or B2-07. Any thoughts? What are the noticeable differences? Also what is the head weight?

Thanks!

1. No, not all Origin putters are Oven models. “Oven” means it came from the Oven R&D facility in Ft Worth. The only models ever released at retail were the B2-01 and B1-01. The other models you mentioned were either made for Tour players or samples made of the models that were going to be released had Nike stuck around for another cycle. The majority of non 01/02 neck putters out there came from the Oven. They could be had prior to Nike shutting down, but you had to have an inside source. When Nike closed the Oven, Dallas Golf bought a lot of their inventory and has been selling them. Buying from them or from eBay sellers is your best bet to find one now.

2. The only differences in those is the neck, toe hang. Because of the RZN in the face, there is no difference in the feel of a retail vs Oven Origin. Head weight on the standard model Origins is 345-350g. My B2-05 is 346.8 I believe. The counter-weighted version has a 365-370g head, but I haven’t seen any of the non 01/02 neck counterflex heads.

Thanks. A few more questions (sorry):

1. Is the head weight the same on 34 and 35” models?

2. What is the difference between the B2-04 and B2-05? They look similar in photos.

3. Is toe hang noticeably difference between B2 04, 05, and 07?
