Looking at the field this tournament is about who is back from injury who is out with injury and will MW be playing with an injury. With Lydia taking a break here my main interests will be can Brooke maintain her top 10 streak and can Gerina keep her form and finally get her first win. I expect to see Lexi, In Gee and maybe Minjee or Charley Hull in the mix come Sunday. Still be nice to see Gerina take this one out.

I'm not sure I get how the VOA comes to sponsor a golf tournament.

I went to their website and got the following:

"Volunteers of America is proud to serve as the title sponsor of the Texas Shootout, an official LPGA event. The tournament provides Volunteers of America with tremendous exposure and will connect people from all walks of life to our mission and allow us to continue to do what we do best – help America’s most vulnerable. Join us by signing up for a sponsorship package and making this event a special annual celebration of the mission of Volunteers of America."

Apparently, they are going to sell 'sponsorship packages' and receive 'tremendous exposure' and 'celebrate their mission'.

Look, maybe all of this is above board but it sure seems a bit unconventional to me.

I'd like to see Gerina grab this one as well. She's close.

Agreed. When you can bomb it 30 yards past most of the ladies out there, that's a major advantage. Her putter is even cooperating. What's really shining brightly is her short game. It doesn't resemble ANYTHING like she had even last year. The Solheim was where it really rounded into form. You can tell she really put the work in. It's great you can pump it out there 280 yards, but if you can't score or save par, it doesn't mean much.

They're a charity. They should always be looking for an angle. Most of these sponsorships are a vehicle for advertising and exposure. And for the record, the commercial where the lady is living in her car with her kids, the vet on the street and the couple dumpster diving just kill me. :(

'Love to see a first time winner, Gerina, Jenny, or Danielle.

If not, it would be nice to see Stacy get back into the winner's circle.

Stacy is definitely off. She's in love and getting married. All good stuff, but she's been more snappy than usual. She's definitely caught between life and golf, and golf is losing.

Yeah, but nothing that a win wouldn't cure........for a week at least.

But once her engagement was announced, she's been in a spiral. Not even competitive really. I'd like to see it...but I'd like to see Gerina win more. She sure is pretty! :)

I think she's realized that she could potentially be a Top 5 or better player because of her distance and stepped up her short game. She is just too good to not have a win.

Maybe her husband getting into great form is playing into this as well. They're both gunning to be winners, maybe they're pushing each other's games to be a lot better.

The Brooke, Charley, Gerina grouping (1:11pm) is going to be exciting to watch first up in the live broadcast slot. Average driving distance this year Brooke (268.19), Charley (261.28), Gerina (271.33). Let's see if this holds up...... Go Gerina!

That definitely has the potential to be a bomber fest!

Lotta Gerina love so far in this thread so let's add to it.

GO, GERINA !!!

Gerina is generally one of the sweetest on Tour and she's finally rounding into form. Plus, she honestly used her "Big Break" to build a life and career. And it doesn't hurt that she's easy on the eyes...and likes her GolfWRX given nickname. :)

As a member at Las Colinas, the course setup this year doesn't place a huge premium on driving distance as they've moved up the teeing areas on some of the hardest par 4's (5th and 9th). Likewise, only one of the par 5's is reasonably reachable for most of the field so there's not too much benefit there. However, if the forecasted heavy rains on Friday fall, then the high ball hitters who carry it further will be at an advantage.

For me, I'm looking at the players who play the par 3's well (4 and 11 are tough greens to hit and 13 is arguably the toughest green on the course), hit a lot of greens (many greens are elevated and leave uneven lie pitch/chip shots on bermuda that's growing away from the green if missed) and have good GIR putting (birdies are aplenty on this course even for a hack like me).

Given those categories, my favorites are:

1. Brooke Henderson - 16th in par 3 scoring, 10th in GIR, 19th in GIR putting

2. Gerina Piller (no surprise here) - 16th in par 3 scoring, 23rd in GIR, 14th in GIR putting

3. Stacy Lewis - 47th in par 3 scoring, 4th in GIR, 17th in GIR putting

Should be a fun week if the rain doesn't come too bad on Friday.

Any thoughts on whether Michelle Wie will tee it up this week? My guess is she will WD after a bad start.

Nice article on her on the GC. I hope she turns it around.

She's playing, but we'll see what happens. I do root for her and her talent, but her body is breaking down at an alarming pace. She's wrapped up in more kinesiology tape than a Pharaoh!

Danielle Kang and MJ with the early lead at -3 after 8 holes. I would so much love to see Danielle get her first win. Sadly, she's been a major underachiever up to this point. She seems to be playing better lately, but always seems to have one bad round in her.

Looks like there will be some good coverage of Danielle's group this morning.
