Let me share a piece from an author that I have enjoyed now for a few years. His stories are excellent.

sludgo’s Mile Markers: Mile 130

I woke up to the sound of a mourning dove cooing from its perch in the giant saguaro just outside my window. A cool-warm breeze danced across my face and I smelled sage and lavender in the late November air. The Beehive was rattling pots and pans around out in the kitchen, whipping me up some eggs and sausage and bacon and pancakes and toast even though she knows I don’t do breakfast. I wiped the sleep from my eyes and gave a little chuckle. It had been so good to see her the day before when I picked her up at the airport. She’d looked terrific coming out of the tunnel, still trim and fit and vivacious after almost eighty-eight years, ready to enjoy her twenty-seventh winter in the Valley of the Sun. I grinned at the thought then noticed the time and hopped out of bed. Slipped into the snappiest duds I’d packed for the trip and wandered into the kitchen. Saw her standing over by the slider, all made-up and dressed to the nines. She noticed me walk in and greeted me with her movie-star smile. Asked if I was ready to go and I said that I was. Told her I was looking forward to it. Nothing like Coffee Time at Sunset Acres.

We headed out the door and into the bright yellow Arizona morning. Toddled a block or so down the street until we came upon a dark brown adobe cozily nestled behind two lazy palm trees. Tony’s place, the one and only coffee stop for the entire neighborhood ever since he and Fran moved down from Kansas in ’89. Fran was long gone but Tony had kept up the tradition they’d started—coffee at their place every morning from eight-thirty until whenever. Bring your own cup and conversation. Donuts if you’d like.

We strolled up the walk and through the screen door and into a giant room packed full of Bluehairs and Silvertops and Chromedomes and southwestern décor. Mom held onto my arm tightly as she led me through the crowd like a show pony, introducing me to everyone as we went along, telling them all that I used to be a psychotherapist but had recently retired to become a writer.

One of the Bluehairs smiled at me graciously and raised a curious eyebrow.

“Exactly what kind of writing is it that you do?”

The room got quiet and my mouth got dry.

“Oh, well, uh, it’s kind of hard to explain, actually,” I stammered. “I do a regular column for an automotive website, a human-interest thing that usually has to do with cars but more often than not it’s about people I’ve known and experiences I’ve had. Honestly, I sort of write about whatever I want. For example, right now I’m working on my Thanksgiving post. Something about all the things I’m grateful for.”

Her powdered face brightened.

“Make sure to mention good health,” she said knowingly. “It’s the most important of anything.”

“That and the health of your family,” chimed in one of the Silvertops sitting nearby.

“And the fact you’ve got a dry bed to sleep in and food on your table and a dollar in your pocket,” noted another as the crowd nodded in unison.

Just then one of the older Chromedomes eased himself up from his chair. Turned and walked slowly over to the couch where he’d laid his coat. Picked it up and pointed to a patch on the shoulder. A flag patch. The Stars and Stripes.

“This, Mr. sludgo. This. This is what I’m most thankful for. The fact that I was born and raised and privileged to spend my entire life as a citizen of this country. The United States. The greatest in the world then and the greatest in the world now. I fought for it. Lots of my buddies did too. All of us eighteen years old and thousands of miles away from home and scared spitless, but doing what we were supposed to do. Our duty. A lot of those guys never made it back and I think about their service and their sacrifice every day. Every single day. And even though I know we’ve got some big problems as a nation that we’ve yet to iron out I can still say that there’s no place on earth I’d rather call home than America. The land of the free. The home of the brave.”

Not a dry eye in the house.

sludgo's Mile Markers: Mile 130

I brought the tumbler of Bailey’s on ice out to the patio and set it on the end table next to the Beehive’s lawn chair. Noticed she was busy fiddling with her phone, completely ignoring yet another gorgeous bittersweet-orange Arizona sunset. I took a seat across from her and asked her what was up and she told me she’d been locked out of InstaFace and couldn’t get back in. That there was something wrong with her emails and her messages too. Then she clapped the phone down hard onto the arm of her chair and took the Almighty’s name in vain. And she never does that.

I reached out and picked up her phone. Looked at it and saw the problem and after a few quick clicks and slides and shakes that was that. All was well again. I handed it back to her and told her it was fixed and she grinned. Said she appreciated it.

I nodded and smiled. Told her that I enjoyed helping her out. That it was my pleasure, the least I could do for the best mother in the world.

She turned away immediately, trying to shake off the compliment but I wouldn’t let her. Took the opportunity to finally say some things I’d wanted to say to her for a while. Like how blessed I’d been to have her as my Mom. How thankful I was for her. All the hugs. All the kisses. All the patience and all the kindness. That I was grateful for all the times she’d patched me up after I’d fallen down and hurt my boo-boo. All the times she’d cheered me on when everyone else had counted me out. And especially for all the times she’d given me a good swift kick in the keister because she thought I needed to toughen up, Buttercup.

She laughed at that and so did I and we grew silent for a moment, then I leaned over and took her hand. Wrapped it into mine and gave it a gentle squeeze.

“I love you, Mom.”

“I love you too, sludge.”

Not a dry eye in the house.

I have the Cobra F8's with regular graphite shaft

6-pw are the one lengths

I carry the 6 iron about 165 and the gaps are about 12 yards between clubs

My f8 gap wedge is standard length and is my choice from 80- 100 yards

After that 56 degree sand wedge ( I actually carry two-low and high bounce )

we are pretty close on the set up and yardages, but I bet your accuracy is a mite bit better than mine !

 They misspelled Ping  Rapture 😀

LOL, the seller answered me by telling me it was sold and they hope to see me again. Nothing

on Laputeur so maybe it is Japanese for Rapture...or very much misspelled it Laputeur. I'll never

know now.

I had also asked them about the shaft. It looked like a Ping version of the Graphite Design AD

shafts Tour Edge Exotics used to put in their FWs around that time frame; 2009 or so.

It’s Rapture using roman alphabet. There is no R in Japanese.

ラプツル in katakana for a foreign word pronounced la pu tsu ru. Maybe they thought it was French…

You're better off going to yahoo auction instead of ebay Japan. ebay is a minor site there.

Yahoo is more controlled and sellers vetted. eBay is not.

Those are Ping drivers. But it’s only in Japanese, I think. 😞
