I can not believe this had a post flagged again because I used a slang name for a Triumph Motorcycle that has the name of a musical instrument. It is getting redicilous on here

It's amazing where olive oil can take you!  That's the beauty of this thread... we can take sidetrips anywhere, drive down dark alleys, put the pedal to the metal, put the top down or make U-turns.  All without the administrator getting on our asses.

I’m sure it is automatically detected after a certain amount of letters.  The mods should go in and confirm it’s not what is disallowed.  However it shouldn’t be disallowed, especially since his name is on golf courses.

Remember when Victor Dubuisson hit his ball into a bush at the Match play? The bush was OK

but he did give it a good smack to get his ball out. T'was a great recovery shot he hit that day.

I do recall seeing Dubuisson hit out but I think there were two bushes involved.

That is exactly how it worked the first 4 letters triggered the panic alarm which IMHO is a kneejerk snowflake reaction. They keep up this kind of foolishness I will be off of here for good

I can speak for all, we wouldn’t want you to leave.  I understand the no politics reason most forums have, but moderating automatically without understanding context is BS.  The mods should have to physically review for context their bot can’t understand.  Perfect example is your post calling a motorcycle a nickname or like scomac talking about bridge, or what if I was going to play at either of his courses in NJ, am I just supposed to call them National Bedminster or National Colts Neck.

As I will start to do more frequently in search of a little warmer temperatures a buddy and I drove down to Spartanburg county South Carolina this morning.

At 11:30 it's golf time baby!

What's with all the dead brown grass?  I don't get it.  I saw the same thing at Torrey Pines back in October.

 

I cut my backyard grass on Saturday before I went about setting up the outdoor decorations and our grass is as green as you would get in the springtime.  All that after getting our first wallop of winter the weekend prior when Buffalo got 7 feet, yes that's right, of snow!

 

Our herbs are still green, growing and useable.  Even the ground roses are still trying to finish up blooming.  Meanwhile, a thousand miles to the south of us everything looks decidedly more dead. 🤔

They are southern grasses that go dormant in the cold season. Some courses overseed with rye

or fescue to have green fairways. Some courses just play on the dormant grasses.

Well, it’s Bermuda grass that goes dormant in the winter. It does well in the hotter seasons. Some courses overseed with rye in the winter or paint the fairways, and others simply play it dormant and save the money to overseed.

 

It’s probably $100,000-$200,000 to overseed now with the price hikes.

 

You probably have bent or Kentucky Bluegrass that thrives in cooler climate.

I grew up in St. Louis and my Dad's was the only house on the block with a zoysia front lawn.  And it went brown in the winter.

I just got back from playing on a typical winter golf day. The temperature was between 2 and 4 C with light winds and my two buddies and I played in just under 3 hours. 
 

I forgot how to play old man boring golf on the front with three double bogies and only a couple pars. I remembered how to play on the back and was only two over resulting in a boring 82. 
 

It looks like tomorrow and Friday will be the only days that the weather will be reasonable. I am glad that retirement allows me to maximize the golf opportunities. The classic clubs are enjoying their chance to get played.

Zoysia is definitely a warm season grass that goes dormant when the weather gets colder.

There are some golf courses with Zoysia  but most courses here in the southeast are one

of the Bermudas, including the greens.

 

Many of the better courses will overseed the Bermuda fairways with rye. I like the contrast

it provides with the beige dormant Bermuda and the dark green of the rye overseeded fairways.

@scotee... golf right now, all over WA state seems to be a "no go".  My course, Lake Padden, was frozen over, some snow on the greens.  Even though it was a balmy 33 degrees.  Had to settle for a range session, hitting knockdown shots into a frigid 20mph North wind.  A guy's gotta practice...
