Arrived!  But alas, I am relegated to sitting indoors stroking my Honmas (they are very pretty) dreaming of a day I can stroke a ProV1 (or even a Kirkland) with the Homnas.

Beautiful!  Is there not an open range with mats or a simulator in Clarkston?  Can you trek to Pullman or Spokane?

Congrats on receiving your new irons .

Scottee, did you notice that the excellent multi material (steel fiber wound combined with graphite) Vizard shafts in the Honma's were progressively weighted? I like a set that has that feature. Rather than waiting until the Washington weather gives you a halfway decent day  to play your new irons I say you fly down to Scottsdale and break them in while playing with the Engineer. You get to use your new irons and also demo a SLED. Of course we all here in the Grille would expect a newsy post after you returned home from the desert.

That sounds like a great idea!  Get those suckers into action right away...  and the SLED, Soloman willing, would be a bonus.

I love that the box is relegated to the frigid outdoors... while the irons get the warm, cozy leather couch treatment.

Doing research on these irons I did learn Stu that all Honma's graphite shafts were made in house. That company sweats the details and has a high degree of quality control. It shows. You can even see it in the paint and lettering used on the shaft. The genuine Honma made shafts was just one more feature that made me snag a set and give them a try.

No, I did not hear the delivery guy and I looked out and saw my package outside just like that and took a picture before I brought it in. I did save the two nice boxes for another old set. They packaged it very nicely with 2 boxes, lots of bubble wrap and shrink wrap on the heads and grips. Just like Christmas morning opening and unwrapping it all.

Just like unwrapping the Red Rider BB gun.

So which shafts do you each of you Honma Hombres have?

Stock R flex for me and I believe they play a touch on the weak side say compared to a Mitsubishi Tensei Red or similar shaft.  I have always enjoyed Recoils and they sort of have that kind of smooth feel but with a wee higher kick point. You can tell they have been constructed similarly to MMT's and Steel Fibers as they have that added strength and offer more consistency.

Remember I have a slow iron swing speed and I possess a smooth tempo (ask Rad) 75 mph is max for me. I should be playing a 60- 65 gram shaft in my irons but I just take one more club with my Honmas and they get the job done real well with magical feel at impact.  The stock shafts are so stable and consistent that I couldn't even think of dancing with another girl.

Here is a photo from my first range session with them on October 29, 2021.

I bought my set as a gift to myself for my milestone 60th birthday.

Here is a photo from my first range session with them on October 29, 2021.

After two buckets hit off of nice green turf I knew they would be in my bag for a few seasons.

Thanks.  So R with the graphite shaft that Honma makes.  Just trying to get a quorum on the shaft you 4 honbres are using.  I'm still trying to wrap my golfing brain around those very wide soles.  My XR Pros are very narrow, clip the ball nicely.

I had this discussion with Rad. I was torn and went back and forth but ended up with the graphite stiff. They package them in 4-10 in stiff and 5-11 in regular. All the regulars were sold out at the good price. I have never hit hybrids very well and still hit my 4 iron well and thought I would like that.  I still carry the MP 53 7 iron 150+ with a light weight steel shaft. GS 95 S 300. This is very unlike me to buy before I try but the price was very good. I did find another 5-11 set in regular for $200 more. If I hate these I can sell and buy again like a real club ho.

That was no great leap of faith my Pacific NW Grille brother, and I'm not buying it for one minute.  😅

You sir just caved to my salesmanship that was combined with Conrad's fine field reporting. 😄

In a few months you too will be singing the praise of having these irons in your bag.    💥

Thank me now.

DMM if you have not read it yet please read this WRX review thread about these irons. That was the first argument I had  that was the soles were far too generous in width. Playing my set early on I found out this was a non an issue for me and many other's stated this same fact. So I pulled the trigger on a set. It is really no issue DMM,  the turf interaction is way solid. The shortish blade length and the little offset amount frames the ball well.

GO FOR IT  DMM  ! and don't be sorry , because before too very long they will be unobtainable.

I'll once again I say that these Honma's hit the ultimate bullseye for the mid handicapper market.

And with 40+ years in the game this old boy knows something about about golf equipment. 💥  😉

These Honma irons have leading edge relief that I measured at 1/4" width from the leading

edge to the slight V where the relief stops. These irons will work for a wide variety of golfers

and a wide range of attack angles I would think.

I have the R flex Honma graphite shafts. They work perfectly for me as I like a higher ball flight.

I am on the cusp with a 7 iron swing speed average of 81 mph when last measured. I can play

a stiff; I just mainly get a lower ball flight and slightly better dispersion. Being that my swing

speed is on the decline an R flex is probably my best option anyway, looking forward.

I was playing stiff in my driver and FWs, etc. but now have gone to R flex in everything.

It's been a calm and lazy Sunday, with a little range time this morning after coffee.  I hit them well in advance of tomorrow's 18 holes.  I had the patience to make the labor-intensive seafood skewers tonight, grilled. Shrimp, scallops, green peppers, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms. After grilling I spread them over a dollop of angel hair pasta. A little olive oil with crushed garlic and Parmigiano-Reggiano over the top. This only happens maybe three times a summer. Just finished, I'm a fat cat chillin' on the Mexican patio.
