Feherty: Rory McIlroy Interview

Wasn't this week's episode of "Feherty" with Rory McIlroy fascinating? I found it shocking that Rory no longer plays golf just for fun anymore. I guess that's the downside of being a professional in an individual sport. I imagine that it is less of a case in team sports.

 

Any other thoughts on the interview?

Comes with the territory with the career he's had thus far. Contrast that with Fowler, who portrays that cool, laid back career life-style, does make time to play for fun with his buddies (as noticeable in his social media outlets). Not surprised with his answer.

 

I also liked him looking back at the 2014 PGA Championship and getting irked at Rickie & Phil fist bumping each other in the hole ahead of him. Lit a fire and got engaged. Lately, I havent seen that kind of look since then

I think he did the interview in Ireland after the Irish Open, or at least Feherty was in Ireland then. That's when the first talk of the Zika virus came about, a BBC NI journalist asked him and there had been no mention of it before. Might be onto something there.

Really good interview. For all his success Rory seems to be a likeable, down to earth guy. I enjoy Feherty's interview style - he always manages to bring out the best in his subjects.

All you have to do is change the channel. :) I think he does some of the best interviews there are. He gets players to say stuff you don't hear anywhere else. Just my 2 cents.

Feherty does the best interviews of all time. This one was really good. McIlroy is a very nice kid with a level head.

It's NBC who makes me want to puke (that's a funny word) with all of the commercials for him and his show. Even his theme song, which was originally somewhat likable, is starting to chafe me because of overkill in commercials.

True. I can't imagine any golfer wanting to go there even for a chance at a gold medal.

Rors used to have passion. It seems to be lacking now. Comes with success I guess.

 

Same with Spieth. Now that he is wealthy and successful ... he seems to complain more about his surroundings (someone moved, cameraman, noise, etc.). Seems more edgy.

 

Maybe that is why it is fun watching the young, enthusiastic players that are still excited to be playing a game that pays a handsome salary.
