Streamsong Experience

My wife and I stayed at the Inn and played the Red and the Black about a year ago. We had a great time. The golf was great and we had a super caddie, 'Utah'. Everyone was very pleasant except a couple of the staff in the pro shop on the Black, arrogant for no apparent reason! We look forward to going back, but will likely not stay at the Inn.

Caddy's and fees are something else and totally different than anywhere else. Same company that operates Bandon Dunes runs Streamsong but their policies are totally different and the fees are drastically different. They strong discourage handicapped players from Streamsong. In addition to cart fee which caddy must drive. the charge $100 direct fee for caddy + gratuity. All of which goes directly to caddy. Never heard of $100 caddy fee anywhere else. And everywhere else adds any "caddy fees" to basic cost at checkin. Played all four courses at Whistling straits, all courses at Bandon multiple times, Courses at Pebble Beach, Bethpage Black with a caddy. So I have experience with caddy at lots of places.

And to be honest, quality of caddies ranges all over. I've had excellent ones there and had ones that I read the greens way better than they did. And had one "PGA Pro" caddy that stood right behind me (i almost hit him with my backswing a few times, zero courtesy.

In my opinion, Red and Blue are top 40 courses in the country. Black is missing the clown faces and windmills on several of the greens. No where near the quality and experience as the other two coures.

And some really stupid design choices on several of the holes. Great if you're playing either the blues or tips but terrible for ladies and seniors. One par-3 had the standard ladies tees at 198 yards up hill. I'd bet 80s of the average women in the country couldn't reach the green in one. The white tee that day was 215 noticeably up hill. Basically unplayable for the average golfer male or female. And that's not a good design.

Also, I have made advance reservations for 36 holes more than a few times. Never tried 54 though. My partners never seem to want to play that many holes. At Bandon, now, we get 36-54 a lot of times and have gotten 72 in more than a few times. Replay prices at Streamsong nowhere near what a lot of other courses charge - way way higher. I've payed at top resorts in Florida, $15. Bandon 2nd round 1/2 price and 3rd and on, free (except for 13 hole par-3 where everything goes to charity and its fixed price for all rounds.

With the "$100 caddy fee + gratuity, I don't play there any more. Too many other courses that are way more reasonable in price and have less hassles with caddies and pro shop idiots. Red and Blue are great courses and worth playing once. Its not Bandon where everytime you play, you can expect a different course due to conditions, no wind early morning, gales in afternoon, hail, rain, sun, fog. And possibly all on same day.

I don’t get what that post is about ? So caddies fee are not direct? It’s literally 100 per bag plus gratuity. I don’t understand what’s so hard to not understand. I’ve played streamsong black over a dozen times now. No par 3 hole is over 200 or even close for the ladies.

and when I had to use a cart which I rarely do the caddies hop on the back. The player always drives the cart.

I've played out there a ton as a single and you've never been able to book as a single through the website as far as I know. I usually just call the resort line and they are happy to get me on the tee sheet. Was there in June and Red/Blue are indeed closed until October. Black was fairly busy but it was in great shape and a lot of fun.

My first experience with a caddie was at Streamsong. I told him this and that I was clueless when it came to any of the ins and outs of taking a caddie. I thought he was good but I had nothing to compare it to. Hindsight he was was perfect for our group (my wife who is new to golf and I who is more experienced but far from scratch). He said he averages $140 to $160 a bag with the fee included ($90/bag for double bagging). So I would say 40-60% but it all depends on your experience. I can definitely say if we had the other twosome's caddie i definitely would not have been tipping that much.
