Pretty stupid. But not as bad as the Spieth limited edition which was just a Newport select 2014 with a sight line on top and different stamping.

The marketing hate is strong in this thread, for good reason frankly. Even from the money grabber that is "The Don", this is a pretty transparent attempt to fleece more unsuspecting OTR Cameron groupies into buying an up-charged version of their 2016 line. And it's for the kids, Little Johnny needs an overpriced dampening membrane fit for his eye line! What a joke.

I play a Cameron putter and have a small collection of putters and covers. Generally, I like his stuff and don't think some of the criticism is justified.

In this case, however, I don't see where this line of putters was really necessary. Even if there are some benefits, they're targeted to such a small segment of golfers that the sales almost have to be insignificant to the overall bottom line.

So basically, a higher cost for a limited offering (33") with gaudier graphics.

Same MSRP as the 2016 Select line. (http://www.scottycam...select-putters/)

And same double sided tape holding the insert in place.

Harmonically tuned elastomer...seriously, double sided tape is what the cast putter guys use on their inserts

true, but the real marketing genius was eliminating the naked newport from the 2016 product line. Now someone can't buy a naked cameron at retail and send it in for the Jordan Spieth-like topline treatment...creating the illusion of exclusivity and scarcity is this guy's formula and it's been working like a charm so far.

all more the reason to increase the circle t pricing. it would make sense but the non-golfwrx or golf forum player doesn't even know the custom shop exist.

Yes, but eliminating the "retail-version" of Jordan Spieth's putter also preserved the value of everyone's existing 009's out there in the world by closing the door on anybody from getting a similar look on a budget. Quite sinister actually

And I'm sitting here, my putter in hand, saying: "You wanna go play outside"?

It replies: "Sure, it's not like I have anywhere else to go", "Nothing new to see here"!

BTW, it's 5 PM, Tuesday Aug 30, haven't seen anything from GT.

So, they appear to be the same price as the regular 2016 line. Why is it so egregious to market this?

Personally, as a lefty who prefers a 33" putter, I'm mildly interested (since OTR SC is only available in 34" in LH).

The wording on the toe is unfortunate, but the rest of it looks decent.

I wonder if he looks in the mirror and says "oh my what have I become?"

No, he's usually more concerned with matching his shirt to his car. The best part of this release is the grey shirt he sports in the ads. It matches the putter aesthetics and his hair well.

Scotty the snake oil salesman.... Training vokey along the way. This is the main reason I don't own any Titleist products.

I just don't see how his products warrant the 410 price tag anymore. Too many better options...

How is this snake oil? Do you guys even know the definition? He's selling at a demanding price because there's a demand for it. It's call capitalism and all this negativity is unwarranted jealousy.

If you don't want to spend the money there's plenty of options available and that's totally cool. I don't see people going into odyssey topics complaining how low the cost for odyssey putters are though. Money seems to be the issue. Or lack of.

^^^ This.

Odyssey rolls out $379 putters. Pings new putters are $300. However, no one bashes how expensive those are.

Agreed

Scotty Cameron is such a strong brand. This is business guys, get over it!

Some real jealously over a product some can't afford i think

Idk dude. I see your point, but I think the frustration from this community is much deeper than that. Most WRXers are pretty informed when it comes to equipment and golf in general, that's why we all come here. Given this audience, it's not surprising how the transparent marketing moves, all about the mullah, aren't received positively. Most everyone here can probably afford even the higher end OTR stuff, they just prefer to take that same money and get a pure custom build from a legend like Byron , Billings etc.

Think about it, the most common gripe I see is that we all know what the SC brand is truly capable of, when we look at their tour putters. Now, it's very obvious they will not roll out anything close to its beloved CT models in anything OTR bc that would drastically reduce the value of the CT stuff. SC bifurcated their business into two distinct arms with very different, yet interlaced, marketing tactics. The CTs are all about the exclusivity, and we all know about the price tags. SC knows there is a very small target audience of collectors and hardcore gamers that will drive that demand on its own, but they also go out of their way with stamping and other nonsense like the Masterful series to try and maintain the exclusivity appeal to that audience.

Now, everyone loves the CT stuff even if you won't buy it, fun to ogle. However, I think most of the gripes that are fair are in regards to the retail branch, as it appears fairly obvious that providing the best product is not the real goal as it is with the CT stuff. It's simply a optimization of "maximize the amount I can take from the average joes' wallet", with much less substance than in the past and increasing, transparent marketing gimmicks like the "dampening membrane" and 33 inch putters for your children and grandchildren.

(Very) long story short, I think the argument is that the OTR offerings are sold at a premium to other OEM retail models, when in reality they are about the same. It kind of eats at a larger issue of corporatism that I think some people have an issue with, but I think the WRX crowd just wishes they would go back to retail lines similar to what they released in the past, and seem to be going in the wrong direction. But we all know the answer is that they are doing whatever makes them the most money, and seem quite shameless in how they do it. It is a pretty unique and obviously divisive topic. I suppose I just find it all quite an interesting case study in marketing and business.

You can't speak for the golfwrx population. If you look at the bst everyone has a Scotty to sell so if anything the golfwrx population buys Scotty at a higher rate than the non golfwrx folks

I myself have 4 Scotty and a Byron and I'm still ho-ing.

And no one is arguing about performance here. I will make the same 3 putts if you give me a circle t or a rusty ping so I'm not going to get into a war of performances. It's all about demands. If you don't want it then cool. No need to bash the cost or use the cost factor as your measuring stick for performance.

Why can't people just buy stuff because they can? And why can't we appreciate the marketing genius of Scotty. I wish I had a putter line up name after me.

Back in the days, my Ping Craz-E, iWi Series cost $280, and the added optional weight kit was $100.

I found that the optional weight kit, was in fact a must, offering almost unlimited "Fine Tuning" options to the user.

SIDE NOTE:

I've seen on eBay, some weight kits, containing 4 X 12 gr weights, sold at $50. The Ping Weight Kit comes with 2 X 20 gr and 2 X 28 gr. The 12 gr weights are the stocks weights installed on the iWi Series Putters OTR. (2 X 12 gr)

Not trying to speak for everyone, it's just like, my opinion, man. And to be clear I'm not saying I hate SC, not at all, hell I'm exactly like you when it comes to putter ho-ing, I have a Scotty and I think it's a fine product. I'm not blasting their product at all. It is just that Titleist seems more acutely aware (relative to other OEMs) of the exact dynamic you described, that people just buy stuff they think and hear is cool, and I think people get turned off at the thought of blatantly exploiting that instead of focusing entirely on product. It's a stupid purist argument for 2016, frankly I agree, given that shameless advertising is the new norm. I also completely agree with you when it comes to the 'war of performances'. I think most of the discussion with putters is incredibly un-scientific and lacking in data.

If I have any gripe overall it is that the industry as a whole seems to be primarily driven simply off of what people like to look down at rather than the rotational value, swingweight or any real performance characteristic. I'm really drawn to what guys like Bruce & Byron are doing trying to focus 100% on developing putters made to work best for a certain person's stroke, or hell even a company like Ping which has focused on simplifying the process for the consumer by explaining the arc differences per stroke.

At the end of the day though, let's be honest, if there is one sentiment where I believe I can speak for WRX, it's that we just want moar new stuff.
