picture in picture "playing through commercials"

I see the commercials as a nice break from the sometimes idiotic announcer rattle. I typically mute the regular broadcast and then un-mute for the commercials!

I've never figured out how to get "picture in picture" to function.

Biggest thing I noticed watching the CBS coverage this weekend, was just how "spoiled" or use to the F1 style leaderboard that LIV uses I've become.  You always know who his hitting the ball, what shot it is, what the par is, and yes sometimes more info than you really need.  Then comes the CBS coverage, and when it goes to the "playing through" smaller picture, I didn't have a clue who was hitting the ball.  The scoreboard only showed the top 5 or 6 usually, they would usually bring up the name and score of the person hitting, but it often times came in late, or disappeared early.  So the TV was a zoom in on a ball that landed close on the green and it would hold there for 5 seconds, with zero info about who hit it, then it wouldn't go back ad show the golfer who hit.

It was a great shot, but I have no idea who hit it, and I don't know if they are putting for eagle or par.  I guess I'll find out in 5-7 minutes when/if that player gets shown putting.

I don't normally need to be bombarded with tons of info, and I'm an old boring guy who watches dull tv programs, but it took a while to get used to the CBS scoring and Jim Nantz-a-thon coverage.  And the playing through stuff got treated like a normal commercial break, i.e. time to get up and refill the beverage, pet the cat, etc.  It provides very little value imo.

I was "working" from home this week so I pretty much watched every minute of the coverage from the time it started on ESPN+ to the time it ended that evening on ESPN/CBS

I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about here... I never once saw them pick up a shot mid air and provide zero info on who hit it. More often than not they also showed what hole they were on and what their current score was...

I wouldn't mind a scrolling leaderboard across the bottom (ribbon style) like some networks do that shows the whole field. However, I don't find myself constantly wanting to know that Joe Blow just birdied the 14th to go from T78 to T59 so I don't think the lack of that ruins my viewing experience in any way.

To the extent there are any sponsors reading this, I would be much more likely to buy your product with a simple ribbon at the bottom of the screen saying “brought to you commercial free by (sponsor).”

I find myself recording everything and then fast forwarding through a bunch of stuff I might have watched, if not for “playing through” bs…
