Whatever happened to Lynx?

Does anyone know what happened to the Lynx brand over the years? As a kid (maybe 12-14 years old) my favorite PGA Tour player was Fred Couples, and I specifically recall him playing with Lynx Parralax irons and Boom Boom metal woods (remember the TV commercials?) I always wanted a set. Maybe I should check out ebay and see whats out there.

Lynx golf died or at least pretty much. Lynx followed up the Parallax irons with the disastrous Black Cat model. It was UGLY and sales flopped. From there they took a sharp decline and bankruptcy. Sold off the name to Golfsmith. I played the Parallax irons in 1994 and at the time, they were good. I've found the occasional club here and there over time and hit them. The one thing about trendy designs is that they look good at the time, a decade or more down the road, not so much. Compared to what is currently out there (design, looks and tech), the Parallax irons deserve to be just a fond memory never to be revisited again.

i have to disagree-the second version of the parallax isnt anything special. its just another cavity back iron but the original desighn is unique and plays much better. looks much different than the second version. freddy played the tour version which wasnt sold to the public. good luck finding a set. the parallax was almost unkown till freddy started playing them. no one has even heard nor seen the original version yet alone played them.s-l225.jpg

Fred played these. No different than the commercially available model.

I thought The Black Cat looked ok, pretty typical cavity iron, if they are ugly I guess all cavity back are??

Here is a pic of a rare set , for me anyway Lynx Radius sole, Hogan Radial version

From the back, the Black Cat look great. When I saw them from the address position they were terrible to my eye. And to many others I guess since they were a flop, sales wise.

There is a Lynx Golf in the UK. Not sure what they sell, but they do have a club line.

My pro shop has lynx irons in....a combo set yellow in colour, lynx predator they're called. Look ok for a good solid starter set which it's aimed at, in fact the irons look very solid for the money.

But on lynx, I loved the original irons but finding a complete set is quite hard

I've seen Lynx-branded wedges on sale here in Japan at one of the large golf stores (Himaraya, I think), though I don't know whether it has any connections to the old Lynx or not.

Those parallax irons were pretty damned popular back in the day, and I recall a lot of players using a Lynx iron that was not a Parallax. Something blade? It seemed to have a shallow face.

Here is the current UK web site. http://www.lynxgolf.co.uk/

They seem to have used all the old brand names - Predator, Boom Boom, Black Cat, Parallax etc etc.

They even do a forged 'Tour' blade, which certainly looks ok to my eye :)

The Parallax Forged CB looks pretty good visually as well I think, in relative terms to other OEM CB's anyway !

I remember the set of Lynx metal woods I had with the Parallax. I could hit that 3 as hard as I could and it would fly strait as an arrow.

It did in the USA, but I don't believe that was true in the rest of the world. Not unlike how Snake Eyes was a component brand for Golfsmith in the US, but not so in other parts of the world.

I liked the Lynx Parallax and had them in the bag until I could afford Pings. The Parallax was a good, kinda small, with a thin top line cavity back. Too bad they couldnt keep it up.

The Boom Boom driver I had in my first year at college was the mutt's nuts. By the end of the season, three other kids on the team got them as I was flying it past the Big Berthas and stuff.

Chopped it down, fattened the grip, weighted it up and then treated it like cr@p so it looked mean too.

very nice desighn- you could try extending them. that will also increase swing weight at the same time

I didn't think of that, easier and cheaper than reshafting for sure. Unfortunately I have more clubs than time (five months of winter doesn't help...), not sure it's worth the effort when I can just pick one of the sets which already fit me.

i learned to make myown extensions from wooden dowls. its time comsuming but low cost. being quite tall i have had to extend a lot of clubs.

I make my extensions from old steel shafts have been doing that for many years. heck find broken shafts all over the place especially at work.
