How are you starting your season?

LOL, overall game was pretty good my last 5 rounds I played in 2017, that would have been in November and first week of December.

 

Since we can play pretty much play 12 months in N Texas, I think 2018 would have been awesome but haven't touched a club this year. Golf is pushed to the back burner for now as I have a new activity that has captured my attention this spring. Hopefully I can start hitting a few balls by mid June and get back to playing in July.

My season has started with new irons (3-GW) and a new Driver. Getting used to them and believe I found good settings on the driver. Need to add a bit of weight on the driver. Short game was a bit rusty but getting better. Putting is a bit rusty as well but have had some good putting rounds, seeing the line better and good pace. This coming week will be a defining week as my first tournament of the year is scheduled for next weekend. A couple of practice sessions and a couple of practice rounds before the 2 day tournament. Hope for the best.

It's one of my swing thoughts - slow and easy.

I started swinging great and scoring well. Then wanted to hit it farther and driver and iron swing got inconsistent.

I had the best year of my life last year - by far. Thought it was a fluke, then I shot 77 at a course that always got the best of me, 84 is my next best score there

My season has been up and down thus far. But, tomorrow I think that I’m going to have a lot of fun beating up on one of my buddies. We have been going back and forth with a debate for years now regarding equipment. He told me some years ago that I needed to upgrade my clubs to the newest technology. At the time I was playing vintage clubs. I knew that I shouldn’t have listened to him, but I upgraded anyway. It has take four years to get back to playing the good golf I was playing then. And yes, I went back to vintage clubs. All the clubs that I play with now come from Goodwill. I went through a stint with some Ping clubs on eBay. But I have since given up the Pings. My buddy plays $1700 Callaway irons and a $400 driver with a brand new this season Scotty Cameron putter. He takes lessons, watches instructional videos on YouTube, he has a million swing training aides. Even the balls he uses cost more than what I have paid for my entire golf bag with clubs in it. I have never taken a lesson and refuse to. I like the way I swing and I don’t want to fix it. I also refuse to spend more money on golf than I have to. So it is interesting when we pair up. It will be going down tomorrow. I’m playing with Golden Eagle First Flight irons, Macgregor Golden Bear maple laminate driver, 3 and 5 woods, a tour pro model sand wedge, and a Wilson Staff blade putter. I will let you all know how it goes!

Going to battle with these today. Still trying to prove a point to my playing mate. It's the Indian, not the arrow. I don't know how many times I have to whip him with random vintage clubs I get from Goodwill. No fitted clubs, no new technology, dried out grips, no lessons, no gadgets. Just me having fun with my swing and my game. He looks so frustrated. I make sure I give him a close up view of the sticks that are doing damage to him. I also remind him that it is my first time playing with these particular clubs. And for reference, all of this came about when he tried to shame me in front of others because I was playing with Ping Zings previously. He showed off his new Callaway irons that he paid over $1500 for, Callaway driver that was $400, new Callaway Mack Daddy wedges, and Odyssey putter. I think the Titleist golf balls he uses cost more than all the clubs in my bag and including my bag. For me, Northwestern irons were $10, driver and woods were $6, putter was $0.99, and bag was $5 - all from Goodwill.
