Gerina really needs to step up and win this thing. Heck, if Kevin Chappell can finally notch his first victory after numerous runner up finishes, Gerina can, too.

Stacy always plays well here, probably due to her ability to play in windy conditions. 'Go figure.

The same goes for Inbee. She sat out last year's event, but had two wins in 2013 and 2015.

It's a surprisingly strong field.

I don't think that's a real surprise. It's been two weeks since the last tournament. Next week's event is a limited field invitational, and then it's two more weeks until Kingsmill. For many players it's the only chance to play in a 5 week window..

I'm hoping for So Yeon to do her usual fantastic! Especially to help her push toward the # 1 spot. This is a good time to strike on that.

Related, which Lydia will arrive? The one from the past year-ish, or the revitalized one from her last two days in Hawaii? How can she now be 20, there must be some mistake? Time marching...

MJ did well last year, so I'd love to see that again to continue her good streak.

Of course it would be super cool for Gerina to get her first win here, extra sweet and the perfect capstone for the heart-breaker here last year. This would be a fantastic outcome. That stat about Jenny Shin getting her first win on her 135th start is so telling. It can take so long and such long odds to even happen at all.

I'm in dread now about So Yeon getting junk sent her way from, eh, very wayward people. Wish there was some good way to show support?

The thing is, Lydia's scoring average this year is currently 69.73, which is only 0.13 strokes higher than last year. Her driving accuracy and GIR percentage is also up. Her putts per GIR is slightly lower. Statistically she is having a great year, but other players have really been going low.

Oh god this tournament is going to be all about Lexi. You know it was much easier when Chella Choi got caught cheating with her marker. Everyone just called her a "scumbag" and moved on. :busted_cop:

You are correct anyone who marks a ball from the side is a scumbag. You have some deep rooted disdain for Lexi. I bet you are a joy to play with or even hang around.

Argonne, I have seen you saying this line of reasoning before, and it's very interesting. I guess I have a disconnect between the actual stats and my perception. (Though I never felt she was in a big free fall or anything, just not as super-powered.) Of course stats > perception. Not sure why the disconnect. About a year-ish ago it felt like Lydia could force victory to appear some Sundays through sheer force of will alone. The competition must have really continued to ratchet up.

I was surprised by the numbers, too. I guess it really points out how small differences in numbers can mean large differences in finishing position on tour.

I believe part of the perception is that she's coming from behind, rather than leading during the weekend. The Lotte was a good example. She finished T2, and had a great tournament. Had she held the 54 hole lead, and been caught by Cristie, it would likely have felt as if she had a great tournament, but fell just short. However, she was never really in the picture after a slow start, and the great weekend rounds don't quite make up for the slow start. Either way, she still winds up 2nd.

I think the missing stat is scrambling, which the LPGA doesn't track. Yes, her putting per GIR is good. Her GIR is good. But what about the putts per missed GIR? We know her total putts is up, so it points a finger at her wedge game. She's not getting up and down like she used too. 'Probably due to less time practicing while she focuses on her full swing. Heck, it might also be new wedges. Maybe she hasn't quite got the feel of them.

Isn't that how she usually plays? Hangs around Thursday and Friday, moves in close on Saturday, and then wins on Sunday?

No, that's been her modus operandi for years. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be working this year. I think the other players have finally figured it out. Lol.

Lydia is currently -1 after 16 holes, and the leader is in the clubhouse at -6. Here we go again! :taunt:

I was looking at the LPGA website yesterday for the scores for the past ANA's. The scores for 2016 and earlier were gone. 'Definitely having issues.....again.

MJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJ!! Goooooooooooo!

So sweet, loved that she recovered on the 15th and it didn't turn into a momentum ruiner.

But otherwise, ouch ... most of my faves are taking a beating. Couple I was stunned.

This was looking like the Bahamas early on, almost solid stars & stripes at top.

Lydia seems upbeat, she acknowledged the caddy thing briefly, though nothing revelatory about it.

I'm quite surprised to see a number of players currently below the cut line, especially So Yeon, Sei Young, and In Gee. 'Not time to panic, though.

Nasa at +9? Rough start to her season.

I've been saying this for some time, and I'll say it again. The tours need shot clocks. Suzann took over 2:10 to hit her 2nd on the 14th hole. It's simply not fair to the other players who then have to rush their shots to avoid having the group put on the clock. I don't care that there was a tree in her way. Hit the shot already.

Lydia had one wedge shot that went a good 10 to 15 yards over the flag. I've seen a lot of that this season. She just doesn't seem to be dropping them in close.

Given the relatively high scores today, kudos to MJ for the great round. It will be interesting to see if she can go wire to wire. She has the talent, but seems to fade on Sundays in recent events.

It's always great to see MJ play well. I'd love it if she goes wire-to-wire and wins it.

Good to see Amy Yang near the top again...it is interesting that she has already ditched the flow neck putter she used to win with less than 2 months ago.

Actually she did "reveal" that she "technically" didn't fire 8 caddies :swoon:

Whoa, Nelly! The winds must be down this morning. Nelly is -4 after 11 holes. Inbee is -3.

However, the average for the morning wave appears to be around par. The course does have some teeth.

Inbee Park with a boring bogey-free round of 4 under 67 today.

Hit every fairway today after struggling off the tee yesterday when she actually missed a fairway.

Is struggling a little bit with the irons as she has only hit 31 greens (86%) in regulation in the first two rounds.

I wish I could golf that boring...
