Chad McCann's Canadian Adventure

McCann1

Recommended Posts

I just booked my flight to Vancouver on the 27th and so it begins...I would like to interact more with the members of Golfwrx and have my own thread to do so instead of jumping on Golfingbro's all the time.

A little background on myself...I was born in good ol Smithfield, Rhode Island and lived there until I was 8. My parents decided we needed to move down to D.C. so I could strengthen my game and frankly my social skills since I lived in the woods of New England. I played one semester of golf on a 75% scholarship at Coastal Georgia and didn't really like it. My game had been progressing to a level that I thought would be competitive at the professional level so I got a job and turned pro.

I went to Canada Q school earlier this year in Cali and met Golfingbro who is a really great guy as most of you know and I also gained conditional status. Not what I had hoped for but I just turned 20 last week and I have a chance to gain full status on the Canadian tour this year and play my way on to the next tier. I look forward to answering any questions and providing some cool insight to my adventure up in Canada. Also to any members of golfwrx that live in Canada I'd love to meet you and learn more about your wonderful country.

Thank you guys and Wolf I will definitely take you up on that if I'm in town! Having a caddy is invaluable and I can't afford to bring one up with me. I've been to Canada twice but not to the west coast. I played a junior event up in London Ontario and last year played in the Niagara championship Monday Qualifier...shot -3 and missed by one. But I had a good time.

It's funny I wasn't even going to go up there but the Friday before the qualifier my friend that was going had us all on a casino boat for his bday and I wasn't going to waste money gambling but that lasted all of 30 minutes. lol. I went to the lowest blackjack table and took out $40. 2 hours later I had $1500 in my pocket and signed up while I was still on the boat! It worked out great because he wanted me to come and split costs with him

Hey, no worries at all. The offer was genuine. In the interests of full disclosure I should have told you that I have no caddying experience, but I'm pretty sure I could carry your bag, keep your clubs clean and keep my mouth shut as required :D .

Also, is this the schedule for the tour?

Best of luck. Living the dream already that some of us would like be to have been able to

Any sponsors yet (clubs, balls, apparel, etc.) or are you still new to the pro game?

I've been a pro for about a year and a half now. Titleist/FJ sends me support on their mini tour level but once I get full status they told me we'll sign to a contract. I've been loyal to Titleist since the beginning and they've reciprocated.

Yessir Wolf that is the schedule. The great part about my status(not great at all) is it's conditional so I'm not guaranteed starts. I think I will get a couple but I don't know where. I'm going up to the first three and signed up for the Monday's in each.

OK, looks like there's one scheduled for Hyland's GC, which is near me. Definitely keep us posted on qualifying and which tournaments you're going to be playing.

How are you feeling about the state of your game at the moment? Anything particular you're working on?

I feel great. Really been hitting the range and short game hard. My putting and my bunker play has always been solid so when I work on that it's never technical, just feel based drills to dial in. My chipping is the weak link. I don't miss a lot of fairways and greens but when I do sometimes I struggle with getting back into a good position to make par. But my swing has felt great this year. I used to work with the guys down at the sea island performance center but I've only had one lesson since 2015. I like to self correct and it's been working so far

Also if any of you would like to follow my instagram it's chadtmccann. I usually post swings, golf course views, etc

Are you planning on playing in the tournament July 20-23rd in Mirabel Quebec?

That course (4 domaines) i have played probably 100 times. I assume it will be on course #2. It's a nice track and probably my favorite public course in the area. I never know what my schedule is with work and my own amateur tournaments, i would also offer to caddy as others have if i was free, but that's around the time we do our club match play also

But if you have any questions about the track, the city, anything in general....i'll be checking into the thread. Good luck. Hope us Canadians treat you well.

Thank you! Yes I plan on going. I'm going to attempt to go to all 12 events whether I'm in the event or have to Monday in. Is there anybody here that is in the Vancouver, Victoria, or Kelowna area? That's where the first three events are and I'll be in BC for 3 straight weeks

You might want to post something in the below thread. Lots of members on here in the Vancouver area I think and that might be the best way to identify some of them.

By the way I checked out your swing on Insta. Looks great. Your finish is very Tigeresque - that is, Tiger in his early days, when he was young, flexible and could still walk.

Oh when you are in Quebec , here are some good phrases to know:

- "Je suis un athlete fameux, mon hotel est [x] et mon numero de chambre est [x]

(i am a famous athlete, my hotel is x and my room number is x)

-Un Tim-Matin s'il v'out plait

(I'll have a Tim Hortons breakfast sandwich please) .....Trust me they are awesome

-Je suis un touriste americain, pas un anglais domestique, s'il vous plait soit gentil!

(i am an american, not a domestic english person, so please be nice to me!)

Hey Chad, glad you are playing the qualifiers. Honestly the first 3 are SUPER popular and hard to get into. The only plus is that the college guys who got status and will be joining up may not be done with school yet so that could open a couple spots. Has the online registration opened up yet? You will see where you stand on there as players register. Lots of guys wait till last minute to w/d (which is totally annoying) so you could be on course in the Q and then they call you off and let you know you have a spot. But good to get there and be in position for those events. I will be coming to the 3rd event with my husband. Kelowna... Hope to meet you then.

After the Tim Hortons coffee and breakfast sandwich you might want to teach him how to ask where the bathroom is... in a hurry
