In my opinion the MB's are actually less intimidating (visually) at address than the CB's. There is too much space on the toe between the grooves and the edge of the face on the CB. It's like the grooves stop too soon which makes the hitting area appear disproportionately small in relation to the size of the head. On the MB the grooves extend closer to the edge of the face which just suits my eye way better. Despite the head being smaller, they actually appear more "inviting." I play the 716 AP2's and am strongly considering getting the 718 MB (perhaps with AP2 4 and 5 irons). It's interesting that you see very few Tour players with CB's in the bag...seems it's either MB or AP2. I can understand why, as for me the MB looks, feels, and performs far better than the CB.

As someone who has played the last two versions of the CBs and love them, I have started doing some thinking along these lines. With the tungsten added to the CB in 716, that's a drift towards more forgiveness, ie towards the AP2. I hit the CBs well, but I started thinking what am I getting from them? Unless I'm going to go MB, why not just go AP2 and pick up that little extra forgiveness. Apparently, early reviews say the 718 AP2 even better in terms of look and feel, seemingly more CB like, so I'm pretty much sold.

MSRP is 185 a club for the steel, if you get an upgraded shaft like Project X this could run 200 a club plus tax

Nevermind, the stock shaft is a Project X, so are they bumping the price up and getting rid of the upcharge?

718 MB is still D2 swing weight but with PX 6.0 stock instead of DG S300, which means the head itself weighs a little more. Interesting...

Maybe they stick weights at the tip

I am the same. Last year, I played CB's, and the same thought you mentioned entered my mind. I switched to the AP2's. Also, you will notice the number of tour players that play the AP2 over the number of players with the CBs. Not many players bagging the CBs.

I've got mine, I will be doing a spin-off thread from the 718/818 fitting.

Basically, I've got two rounds in the books and a few range sessions, absolutely love them. Consistency consistency consistency!

FWIW, I am just getting back to the game and have been working to get the right shaft/head combo. I currently have sets of 716 CB and 716 AP2 and there is so little difference on the course and both are SO good that I could alternate shots with them and not tell the difference. Maybe the CB's get up a little much for me into a breeze but that is the shaft IMO.

Just saying going from CB to AP2 will likely not be much of a performance change in any way IMO.

Best of Luck!!
