Atlanta to Chattanooga

Heading to Chattanooga for three days business. Flying to Atlanta and driving the 2.5 to TN

 

looking for a course rec on the way to Chattanooga, already made arrangements to play Sweetens Cove one of the days im there

Echelon on North side of Atlanta is worth the short drive to the east off I-75.

If you are playing Sweetens, you might as well go to Sewanee. Canyon Ridge looks good.

The Farm and The Honors Course if you can get on.

The Frog is a nice track 20 min from the airport.

In Adairsville on your way, is Barnsley Gardens, great course that doesn't get much play. It's never busy, and always in really good shape, I prefer it to Echelon, or Frog. Like mentioned if you can get on a course Farm and Honors are the best, but very private. Lookout Mountain is a great course and although private would be much easier to get on than those two. Call up there and they may let you on, especially on a week day.

The Frog and Echelon are out of the way for your trip. I would suggest Barnsley Gardens, Canyon Ridge, or Cobblestone as they are all on the way to Chatt town.

The best course on the way to Chattanooga is Barnsley Gardens. I played there yesterday. It's a beautiful environment for golf. While on the course you see nothing but golf course....no homes, highways, etc The greens are fantastic...smooth, firm, fast. No crowds. The Farm is really good, too. Maybe better, maybe not depending on taste. To me, not worth the hassle of having a pro set up a round and paying the unaccompanied guest rate.

 

In Chattanooga, The Honors course is in another league. If you can get on, do it. If you can't, I would play either Canyon Ridge or Lookout Mountain Country Club. Canyon Ridge is more modern with plenty of eye popping holes. I've played it a couple of times, however, and the elevation changes and forced carries are a little tiresome.

 

If you're into golf architecture, you should play Lookout Mountain CC. It's a Seth Raynor design that you could play over and over again and not tire of it. It's very much old school. Plus you get to go to Lookout Mountain, which is a beautiful neighborhood with a wonderful climate.

 

Brian Silva built a Set Raynor tribute course in Chattanooga called Black Creek. I haven't been there in a long time, but it used to be a great experience. An architectural museum....thumbprint greens, red an holes, etc. All the classic Scottish designs

I played Canyon Ridge this past weekend and it is in very good condition. Tee times are readily available and it would be a good choice.

Sweetens, Barnesly Gardens and Canyon Ridge would be the 3 I'd try to play. I'm assuming you don't know anyone that can get you on the Honors Course or you'd already have planned on it. One of the hardest courses to get on in the SE.

Bear Trace at Harrison Bay would be another option. The course is in good condition and it is an easy drive NE of Chattanooga.

Barnesly Gardens is a great course. canyon ridge is fun in a different way. the honors is my fave of course, just hard as hell, course is in real good shape right now. i prefer courses with very little homes, call me strange but that what i like.

If you're looking for courses you can definitely get on at, try Stonebridge in Rome, Cayon Ridge, or Bear Trace Harrison Bay. If you're willing to drive a little farther up the road TN National in Loudon is worth playing. As far as private courses go you gotta know someone to get out at the Farm or the Honors but you might can get out to play at Dalton Golf & Country Club or Black Creek if you give them a call.

barnsley, stone bridge are the better public options. once in chatt, the bear trace harrison bay is nice but on the opposite side of town. you would be better off playing sweetens as much as time allows. but that's just a members opinion.
