Lexi's putting is getting better and probably will improve further if she spends less time in the gym and more on the putting green and settles on a decent putter in place of some of her wacky past experiments.

Both great players in their own way, Lexi`s putting is what holds her back. It is improving, but does she have the confidence with every stroke?

To be fair, she was told after the round was over. On the next day. Gotta have some context.

 

That said, Lexi. Her putting is coming around. She pretty much has everything else. We always hear Judy say, "If she could just work out her putting..." She has been, and it's been impressive.

Have watched them both play in person recently. In 2 out of 3, I'd give the edge to Lexi. She's not really a bad putter, she just doesn't dump in many putts from >10ft usually. If her iron and wedge game are on, she can become unbeatable.

2 out of 3 is enough for me to give the nod to Anna. Two nails-hard competitors but Anna seems to be more consistent to me in her play as well as making the crucial shot. The approach shot she hit on 18 to halve against Lexi is one of the memorable shots of the year for me.

 

If it was 4 of 7, or even 3 of 5, it's definitely Anna for me.

Lexi also has 75% more birdies than Anna. In match play Anna is going to get smoked over the long haul.

Otherwise known as 4.71 per round versus 3.50 per round. Doesn't sound quite as big a difference that way does it? Lexi averages .91 fewer strokes per round than Anna. Which shows why at the professional level, men or women, an 18 hole match play is always a crap shoot.

I do understand folks comments about stats, etc., but if you put these 2 on any tour course right now, dollars to doughnuts, Anna would take her out more times than not best of 3. There is no doubt. Take biases out of the equation folks and just look. Lexi Thompson cannot put, period!
