I still find it interesting that he went from the M1 to the M4, meanwhile the majority of guys who used the M2 went to the M3 with the exception of John Rahm and Jason Day went from the M1 to the M3.

Β

On the flip side I believe McIlroy was using the M3 this year while using the M2 (2016 and 2017) in the past.

Anyone know if that's the superstroke gtr tour or 1.0?

Β

He's always used the 1.0 on the spider.

Β

I believe he used the stock, black Lamkin grip if I recall initially on his Spidey?? (Last year at this time if I recall)...

Β

Also, when he was in China, and decided to switch back to the Spider from his attempts at experimenting with the Taylormade TP blades, mallets, etc. his rep had to quickly acquire the appropriate Superstroke grip, it had the blue accents vs. the black/red model he was normally using.

Β

Aren't we sick?? :swoon:

He used the black Winn midsize pistol with became the stock grip for retail, to create a true DJ putter. He has now switched to the SS.

I'm most interested in the driver leaning on his bag. Shaft definitely doesn't look like his normal speeder. I can't imagine what he could be looking to improve on with his driving lately.

Β

I think that might be a 5 wood???

Β

He's gonna game that old 2.0 Rombax proto till he dies.

Haha, it definitely seems that way. But he played around with other shafts before. I remember him playing the Rogue for a bit back in the Aeroburner TP days (I think).

Β

The angle of the photo makes it tough to determine, but it seems long to be a fairway wood. It's sitting on the ground, leaning on a angle and it still looks as long as the 3 wood sitting straight up in his staff bag.

Β

Greg, can you enlighten us?

Interesting to see his driver sleeve to be adding loft. Thought since he is a cut player that he would get a 10.5 head like in the past and knock it down half degree, since he is a closed faced fade player

Most tour heads are a degree or two open to begin with

I thought I remember reading somewhere he liked the look of it in that setting because it helped him to think about swinging left.

Gotta love how he will never ever change out that shaft in his driver. Its amazing how it has consistently worked the best for him no matter what head he puts it in.

Β

At this point are they just making that version of the shaft for him or does he just have a secret vault stockpiled...

Β

Β

I sometimes wonder what shaft is under that paint. ;)

Is he really gaming a 52 60 64 setup or is he just trying out wedges?

Β

The 52 is really 54 from what I understand.

Β

So he goes 48* pw, 54* sw, 60* lw, 64* bunker

Loft is the only thing I can think of that might be different. I’m pretty sure the retail models were originally designed to be identical, new sight lines not withstanding.

I'e noticed this before and have not commented, he's one of very few guys ive seen play different shafts from his irons to wedges, why is that? i feel the inconsistency moving from one to the other in the wedges would be detrimental.

Β

Playing a 60 and a 64 is Phil's territory. I'd be interested to hear what he like about playing both.

He said sinces he normally delofts the club during his backswing, having more lift helps out of the sand. He said his sand game is very weak (idk if the stats would back that up) so he feels more comfortable with this club in the sand. He is only in maybe 2-3 bunkers a week considering how many greens he hits.

Will Peoples sells the DJ "Proto Rombax" on his site with the Speeder Graphics

Β

Last week I bought R1 Painted "Fuji Fuel 2.0" which is 100% the same shaft

Β

The main way to know for sure is the DJ Proto will have the Rombax Weave clearly visible on all areas that are not painted. Also the thing is an absolute board.......there is not much give in this shaft.
