I was in Peak Golf the other day at it's now full-time location in Kits at the former Sigge's ski shop. Chatting with staff I was told that after 37 years in the business, and two good years in a row for ski sales Sigge figured last year was the time to get out. That he had never seen three good winter seasons for his business. Hadn't thought of it in those terms before, but as a lifetime Vancouverite, it has the ring of truth.

 

Even before climate change weirdness I guess. I don't do a lot of winter golf around home now. But I told the guy at Peak that I remember playing with a friend probably 35 years ago one mild winter where we played one day every weekend throughout the winter at local courses with zero rain that day.

I don't know how you guys feel, but when it's under 7*, i just don't enjoy golf the same way

Would I rather play in 20 degrees? Of course. But golf in the cold is better than no golf at all IMO. Just make sure you have invested in proper gear to play in the conditions.

For sure, just prefer rain over cold, hands don't work the same way, but hey, we have rain coming

Yeah...went along Marine Dr today as far as Market Crosssing ( the mall near Riverway) and big puddles were forming on Marine. Headed up the hill to Kingsway on the way back as figured it was going to get worse on Marine quickly. Those commuting tomorrow will need to take care. Still the idiots and tailgaters on the road today in those conditions that figure a speed zone limit set for optimum conditons is just a suggestion.

Anyone notice that the MC players card Golf Exppo special no longer offers a dozen Chrome Softs? now just a sleeve of Truvis. No longer worth it in my opinion to go to the expo for the deal. Can buy same deal on line during the expo but you don't get the Truvis.

 

Unless of course you want to go to the expo itself.... I'll pass and opt to buy online this year.

Yeah I noticed that. Don't need to go to the show to pick up their discounted gift cards either. Looks like I wont be needing to head to the show this year.

 

If I'd have known that a couple months ago I probably would have just bought that discounted golf surrey passport instead.

hi guys - new to the board and have the itch bad. i got fitted by jeff @ modern golf as well as a gift to myself for breaking 90 this year. i thought it was awesome.

 

i hit riverway driving range on saturday but really should've played. place was packed!

It’s lush for sure! Lots of tree debris from the wind along the treeline and the greens were shaggier than normal but there were no temporary greens. I played with 5 clubs (22° hybrid, 7i, PW, 58° LW and putter) off the blue tees. It was a fun way to knock some rust off.

Played hazelmere today. Was sloppy in spots but overall very playable for January.

Played Canal yesterday and Morgan Creek the week prior.

 

Canal was playable but sloppier than expected. Just so much goose crap everywhere.

 

Morgan Creek is in phenomenal shape for this time of year. My shoes didnt even need to be cleaned after the round. Beware they are doing a split tee start on weekends so if you go out early as 2 or 3 and blitz around you will get screwed at the turn.

thanks for this I live down the street so I will have to give it a shot on a dry day. Played peace portal a couple weeks ago. Pretty standard winter conditions with slow greens and a few sloppy spots. They do have temp tee boxes set up but it’s super cheap to play with their free winter golf card.

Played at University yesterday. The course is in good winter shape and I’d say worth the $50 at the moment.

Got screwed at Morgan back in Nov. turned a lightning round in to a regular round.

I usually play hazelmere once a week during the summer and the conditions were pretty impressive considering the relatively cheap green fees. Always nice to warm up on the grass range when it is open.

Played riverway today and In great shape. There is slop in the rough but that’s it. A few teeboxes are being redone. 9 is teed at the women’s so it’s driveable if you’re a big hoss.

I played Fraserview today and it’s in good shape. Temp greens until 11am but once they are open the greens are quite pure. They were vertical cutting the greens and sanding them during our round.

 

Played Morgan Creek a few days before and it’s like playing during the summer. More than twice the price of the public courses but you get what you pay for.

Was going to check it out until I saw a preview on IG. Looked like a flea market to me. I’m sure there will be decent stuff too but the preview helped me decide against going.
