Playing golf in Vancouver Canada (NO POLITICS!)

North Bellingham had a 1 hour frost delay and was the windiest round of golf I've ever played, but man was it fun. Clicgear carts were blowing over and balls were blowing off the green lol.

Any canadian specials for green fees?

Not that I'm aware of. It was quite expensive after exchange....probably not heading back despite great course conditions.

It is CAD$50 cash for Loomis Trails for now.

I have played both Homestead and North Bellingham and I think Loomis is the best deal.

(North Bellingham rate is US$46 + 8.5% tax = US$49.91 plus exchange say at 1.34 = CAD$67.)

The only issue with Loomis is no food services at all.

Loomis and Homestead are both much swampier than NB in the winter though I'd assume?

I've only played Homestead in the winter once, and we swore we'd never go back. It was so soft and muddy it was basically unplayable (4 years ago?)

Loomis was quite dry and very minimal standing water. In fact I do not recall any standing water at all but there was still some snow tucked away where the sun don't shine.

I am kinda picky about conditions and I was impressed.

Never been to loomis. Is it a walkable course? Do they do $50 CAD cash only or can I do it by card?

It is very easy to walk. Green to next tee is never far away. No housing routed thru the course (some houses on the boundary of the course on the back 9).

Bent grass greens so different from our usual poa.

Cash only if you want the CAD$50 deal.

IMHO the best of the Blaine / Bellingham courses.

I’ve played it a few times. 3-4? I think. It beat the hell out of me the first time I played it. Unless you’re really good I would expect to shoot over your normal score for sure as the beav said.

That being said it is a great track. I like semi better because it’s easier, but loomis is better to a lot of guys I know.

Loomis is great, I'm sure you'll love it. Once the weather improves, also put Shuksan on your list if you haven't played there. Enjoy your round!

Loomis was purchased by the Lummi Indian Business Council who also owns The Silver Reef Casino.

I have friends that were original member of Loomis when it first opened.

It was then purchased by Semiahmoo Golf Club and ran together alternating private days.

Back when Loomis was strictly a private club it was amazing.

I still think it is a way better course than Semiahmoo.

My friends are not impressed with the recent sale of Loomis as now they are stuck playing Semiahmoo only.

Loomis Trail was in great shape today, except for hole #16 being closed. I freaking LOVED the course and we'll be heading back for sure, and for $50 CAD (cash only) it was a very nice deal. Maybe a few too many forced layups off the tees so I only hit driver 4 or 5 times. I struck the ball pretty well (for me) but just couldn't make anything on the greens. A lot of subtle breaks that were tough for me to pick up.

Easy to walk. There was a 1.5h frost delay and first times went off around 930am.

Just heading out there.

#16 is always the last to open due to the surrounding trees and no sun.

Last week there was still lots of snow and ice on it and on the cart path.

Now that Semiahmoo is private (except for resort guest) I expect a lot more play over in Loomis this summer.

My friends told me that Semiahmoo is spending some money on the course for sprinklers and some deferred maintenance stuff at the clubhouse and now that they do not have to support two courses the conditions will significantly improve over there.

Semiahmoo is charging US$7,500 for family and UD$6,500 for individual membership initiation fees. Generally initiation fees are used for capital improvements to the course and clubhouse. Those fees will not ensure them to do too much capital improvements unless the corporate owners are prepared to spend from their purses.

We will have to see how much the Lummi folks are prepared to spend on Loomis. If they can get it to within 80% of how it was when it first opened it will be fantastic.

FYI Loomis was sold for US$3.75M ...........

Loomis also has 2000 USD for unlimited play and practice which I thought was a great deal. I like Loomis a lot more than Semi personally.

US$2k for unlimited play is a smoking deal. That is approx 5 months of dues at my club.

Loomis' club house is very impressive too.

When it first opened they had rooms that you could stay in overnight and two restaurants and a lounge.

If you haven't already visit the men's locker room it is pretty nice.

Yeah I explored a little during the frost delay. It is awesome.

If the border wasn't such a pain I'd seriously consider the yearly pass.
