lumbar laminectomy on 3/09 anyone experience similar surgery, please share

Please share your experiences, I have a herniated l4-l5 and will have surgery 3/09. Wondering if anyone else has gone through something similar surgeries, please help. getting kind of discouraged since I just dropped some serious cash on initiation fee at a new club, luckily they agreed to freeze my account. thanks

I had a 4 level cervical fusion in December of 2010. Took about 6 months for a full recovery.

No problems since. Good luck!

I had L5-S1 TDR in January. I am still sore and tight. I had a 2 day stint of zero pain and bliss then had a rebound of pain in the lower back for over a week now. I may have pushed too hard and strained something or it could just need more time. It is a bit defeating at times and Im just trying to remain optimistic. Best wishes for you.

I had an L4-L5 and L-5-S1 discectomy and laminectomy. I was back playing in 10 weeks. One word of advice: DO YOUR PHYSICAL THERAPY POST OP!!!! Don’t get lazy because you’re “feeling better”. Strengthen that core to the max!

I had the same surgery last September. Walked out of the clinic with no pain. As Shipwreck said, follow you doc’s instructions and DO your therapy. No lifting over 10 lbs for 4 weeks. After physical therapy concentrate on core strength and flexibility. I went to a Monte clinic in January, hit balls and/or played 4 days in a row and was fine. Once cleared by the doc, you shouldn’t reinjur yourself. Probably will loose some speed and the lower back muscles will be weak. Good luck!

It's a quick surgery with good success rate. It may take a while before your doctor clears you to return to golf depending on their precautions and orders - typically you will be on a no bending/twisting and weight lifting restriction for a set amount of time. Attached is an interval golf program that is recommended to perform once cleared for golfing. Your doctor should provide you with something like this when the time is ready; if - not, you can refer to this. I follow this guideline with my patients -- we're lucky because we have a golf simulator in our clinic! As mentioned, do your PT. Treatment will/should emphasize hip flexors/quadriceps mobility and core/glute stability training.

Another successful lamenectomy here. Took a couple of months building core up but back playing and walking just fine. If I dig for a few minutes it reminds me thats not a good idea. Apart from that AOK. ! Good luck.

Back is starting to feel human again... Nerve pain down the leg is better than before (it was debilitating prior to the op), but still flares up. Doc says that should go away in 6-8 weeks.

I had the leg pain. It felt like somone pouring hot water over my right knee. Its relocated pain caused by inflamation around the nerve near the disc area. Location of the relocated pain is directly corresponding to the locàtion of the offending disc. Your doc could point it out on a nerve "map". It fades away quite quickly.

2007 I had the ruptured disk between L4 & L5 repaired. Surgeon repaired the rupture and cut some bone away to make more space for the sciatic nerve root. No fusion. Began physical therapy right away and was playing golf in 12 weeks. 11 years later, all is well. Best wishes to you!

UPDATE: Had surgery on 3/09 surgery went fine, just had troubled urinating as my bladder was asleep. got home last night fully constipated, by the grace of GOD had a bowel movement this am and I am feeling fine, ready to start rehab, no back pain at all. thanks for everyones well wishes.

Redjeep, I having been dealing with back pain sciatica for over 20 years, I believe the original injury occurred spotting a guy on a bench press at the gym, needless to say he had no chance of making the lift he was trying, so I had to lean over the bar and assist. As for my most recent bout, I was having some sciatica pain and was stretching and thought things were improving, a couple of days later I was carrying 50lb. buckets of thinnest up stairs and the next morning went to change position in bed before I got up and felt a grab, next thing I was done, surgery was my only option after the mir review.
