That's an awesome story for the 19th hole. Once I was playing a local course solo, and caught up with the solo in front of me. We both teed off to a 160 yard forced carry par 3, and as soon as we got to the green, he started yelling, "Big boy!" over and over. Didn't know if he was talking about me or him or if he was just a nut, and I was about to leave, when a big gander came waddling around the corner toward him, followed by a few geese. Turns out he feeds them every time he gets to that hole, and they know his voice. Was immediately relived.

I had one chase me down the fairway yesterday. Got alittle to close to the the goslings. Nothing like the video though ~

One of my neighbors is a game warden. He refers to Canadian geese as "snakes with wings."

Huh. Where I live seems to be a stopover point for them on the way south. Into the fall, you can see them almost by the hundreds, flocked into a pond in Mars Hill, or on the Aroostook River in Fort Fairfield. Maine, that is...

 

You should see the mess they leave behind. I came to the 9th hole a Bangor Municipal GC a few years back, and wondered (literally, I am not kidding you) "Why is the grounds crew digging up and re-sodding the fairway this late in the season??" I asked the pro when I came back in, and he said it was all geese pecking away for grubs. The entire fairway was upturned and there were only tufts of grass left. Incredible to see.

Geese are pretty bad on a golf course, but don’t compare to the wild pigs that tear up thd fairways, in south Florida, in search of grubs.

They can easily render a fsirway totally unplayable.

I've had a few run ins with them on the course but no great stories but my dog did.

 

My little 14lb yorkie in my profile pic caught one a couple years ago and it was an epic battle. I let him out into the back yard, he saw the goose in the yard and bolted right at it, I didn't have time to stop him as this little guy catches rabbits so he is fast. I yelled at him to stop but there was no reasoning with him at this point. The goose was facing away from him and turned when I yelled but my pup leaped right at it and tackled it knocking them both over, he was biting profusely with his paws wrapped around the goose as they rolled around. There were feathers everywhere. The goose bit him back a few times and there were a few yelps and the goose finally shook him off, but I declare my pup the victor as he left the battle with a mouth full of tail feathers. He literally puffed out his chest, ears up and head held high for 2 days after that, gotta say I was proud of the little guy.

I've been known to play golf below freezing all the way down to the teens, which means my blaze orange jacket and wool hat come out. They must get hunting pressure from somewhere even here in the Philly burbs, as they scatter.

I've never been attacked by a goose before and I live in Ontario where they are plentiful.

 

Now Red Winged Black birds are Satan spawns with wings. I've been smacked in the head several times be those bastards. Chased off tee blocks, etc. They hit hard too and always in the back of the head. These hellish creatures will even attack hawks, eagles, bears etc if they go near their nest. The worst part is... you have no clue where the nest are until you have one of these things swooping at your head like your grandmother after she heard you got in trouble in school again.

I've never had a bird complex before 2 years ago... I do now but only with these angry flying douchebags.
