Dear Taylormade: I do like my wedges black, but definitely not my irons!.. :taunt:

 

Below is another pic of the upcoming 790 'Black Series'... :ninja: (Note the red screw... :angry22: ...Ugly IMO)

 

This is all about extending the life of a popular clubline that TM can't figure out how to improve .. :yes:

I am still gaming M2 Tour irons. They are black in spots, but have a contrasting finish on the face. They are not glossy either which I really like.

Does anyone know if the original M2 irons that had the black finish were also the PVD finish? If so there is going to be some pissed people when their black irons are wearing fast.

I cannot find any information on the actual finish of these, but I game the M2 Tour irons still and they finish holds up very well on them. The face is a grey finish, not the smoked black like the rest of the club.

I’ve got a set on the way for our shop. I’m interested to see them in person. Not sure I like the price increase just for a new finish. Callaway doesn’t do that when they release black irons.

mgs has a nice write up about it and compares the pvd to the dbm, lets just say, you're flushing the $$$ away if you expect the finish on these to last. stick with the chrome, imho

On my M2 irons the black finish that was on the face and sole on the heal and toe areas is what I was talking about. The gray on the face and sole was fine. But the black at the bottom of the face and on the sole areas was pretty well wore and faded when I sold them after about 60 rounds.

Unless the i500's are under $1200 the market has been set and although the "blacked out" price looks ridiculous, the TMB/i500 are likely more expensive and PXG is around 4K.

I think so. He hits the ball a WRX load (300+ on average). Modus TX 120, Oban and ACCRA shafts in the woods/hybrids. Custom Cameron Newport, whole nine yards if you will.

 

He doesn't know about WRX or the BST, and I didn't have the heart to tell him after he spent nearly 6 hours and that kinds of money on a custom fitting experience.

The range at my club has a lot of sand from being top dressed when it’s punched. It’s almost sand based at this point. Drains well and it’s lovely turf. Hard on clubs. Would shred the finish on these.

That’s a good solid profit for CC on that. I haven’t visited them personally but I’ve heard good things about their fitting (though that cost for those irons is crazy)
