My Bettinardi BBX-81 Putter works nicely with my 'uniquely modified' LHL grip that I invite others to try too!

Before last year, I had used a Ping Redwood Answer for so long I honestly can't remember what I had before that...maybe what came out of a Wilson Sam Snead set of my father's? I was maybe average with the Ping outside of 5 feet but really solid inside of that. Last year I went with the Scotty Futura 5W. I had some days that I made some putts, but overall I was pretty average with that putter.

I decided a few days ago that as I get older, being an average putter is not going to be enough if I want to play with the young guys. So, I spent 90 minutes rolling putts yesterday and it came down to:

1. TM Ardmore 2 with 35in shaft and SS grip (the most comfortable in the shop for me)

2. Odyssey 7 with 34.5in shaft and Odyssey grip

3. TM Tour Spider red with 34in shaft and a super thin TM Spyder grip(the least comfortable of the three for me)

 

I told the salesman that I was not going to let anything contribute to my decision except for how many putts went in.

I came home with the ugliest and least comfortable-the Spider. Maybe it was the 34inch shaft that got my head and eyes to a position that worked with my low left hand stroke that is over 20 years old? At least it was on sale for $249 so if I don't like it I can probably move it for only a $150 loss :-).

I change irons more than some people change undies but putters...I can remember less than 4 in 30 years.

Of course the bottom line is...I may be a pretty average putter outside of 5 feet.
