Ken Duke at the Players. It turned up in my google search. It said it was 10.59. (when doing "total strokes gained", what you beat the field average by is the same as total strokes gained. Might not be obvious to all.)

Tiger was so bad on the greens today. Dreadful display. I don't think I would have taken any more putts than he did from the same spots he was in TODAY. I'm serious.

Koepka was such an obvious pick for this week that I took him last week instead. I was kind of hoping he'd come out and poop the bed, solely for one and done purposes. Instead he went out and hit bombs and attacked flags. City gave me a dig for taking him last week and he "only" got 379.2k winnings. So my new goal is for him to finish 6th and only win 380k. Maybe even 7th, so he doesn't get the satisfcation of getting even $800 more than me for Koepka.

 

For one and done purposes, the payout is about the same as finishing 1-2 places higher in a normal Tour stop. I'm not so sure that it's worth picking the same guy as 10 other people in that case. I certainly thought he had a better chance of winning last week against the weak field than he does of finishing 2nd this week against a stacked one. Obviously if he does win this week, it becomes the right choice to have picked him.

 

This Day/Rory/Phil pairing looks prety sweet. Wish I was at home to watch it. I was waffling between picking Molinari, Day, or Tiger this week, and went with Day. I'm having some slight anxiety that he may hurt himself trying to climb out of a fairway bunker on 4 and have to WD.

so according to vegas Brooks is a little less than 40% to win. Sure doesn't feel that way. this tournament could be completely over today.

 

Perhaps i'm being stubborn, but what we've seen from 100% of non-tiger golfers is that eventually the pressure catches up to you. This is the first major where he's facing all the media, has declared how confident he is, and said he's going to win 10 majors on Tuesday. Now shooting 63 is a sick start. BUT. Now he's sleeping on the lead. And everyone has declared him the champion. More pressure. This is all stuff that he hasn't had to face despite winning three of these. Eventually that pressure grows gremlins and crushes people. IF he wins, IMO it'll be the most impressive of his four.

Brooks is going out in the bad side of the weather draw today too. Not saying that will really affect him but lets see how things shake out after a couple of rounds especially if the winds pick up like they were talking about. Thats why I think Tiger is especially screwed, cant see him making up much ground this afternoon.

If there were actually a way to measure and bet on this, I'd bet on BK handling the pressure just fine. He could hit that drive from 1 yesterday, the drive on 4, and get bad lies, make a couple bogeys and people will go, "he didn't handle the pressure".

 

He seems to have a lot of "not care" in him along with a chip on his shoulder. good combo.

 

also, at last years PGA, he kind of had a freight train bearing down on him. I don't know why this one is going to test him anymore than that one.

I agree. I also think if you want to be more on Brooks to win - wait until after today. I think its going to be a closer pack than it is right now and my guess his odds will be slightly higher.

I've never listened to the pod before (nor will I ever listen again), but he was on the Pardon My Take pod from Barstool.

 

It was odd. I think part of it is he's just left going along with the hosts, who are just over the top, and brutally obnoxious. He sort of tries to be self deprecating at times. He awkwardly agrees with just about everything the hosts are saying.

 

The whole "I don't really like golf" attitude seems so forced at this point. He doesn't want to play golf in the off season. Golf isn't fun enough. Let's make golf 14-15 holes because I get bored for the middle of the round. He tries so hard to not be classified as a golfer.

Really looking forward to the Hive event tomorrow. Last year was a blast. It's disappointing that the heads up match play portion was eliminated. That's the most Ryder Cuppy aspect of the different formats you can play for an event like this. Either way, it'll be a great time and the Wasps will be victorious.

I was wondering how guys were going to approach that. There's no room on the tee there, so the absolute tips are only a few yards behind the red tee. DJ's line is a bit more right than some, but most guys are blasting it over the trees there. It's a little absurd compared to how amateurs play it. If you hit a 250 yard drive and miss the fairway a foot right, you are in thick rough and blocked out by the trees.

I only caught bits and pieces, but it looks like Jordan put together another one of his smoke and mirrors low rounds out there today. He was hitting some off the planet shots, didn't hit many greens, but he's right in the thick of it. I'd bank on him vanishing by Sunday afternoon, unless he cleans it up and hits it better.

Heard John Feinstein on the radio this morning with the Junkies and he was saying there's 40,000 fans of which 35,000 were following Tiger, 4,000 were in the merchandise tent, and the other 1,000 were lost looking for Tiger, lol. Said it felt like more of a web dot com tour event through the rest of the course.

My final 3 that I was debating between for the one and done were Tiger, Molinari, and Day. Day is in at +3 on the cut line, and the other two are on that and still have the rest of the round to go. Debatable if they make it. Not my finest major here.

 

I haven't been able to watch a single shot yet, but seems like it's been a great major. This seems like the type of score distribution the US Open should have if it wasn't run by a bunch of sycophants. At or under par is a great score, with a few guys setting themselves apart going low, and a lot of guys struggling above that. But there aren't massive scores by the big guys. Just some consistent bogeys on hard holes.

 

I'm almost bummed I'm going to be playing 27 holes tomorrow instead of watching it. Almost.
