I had the total opposite experience. Mine (inguinal, both sides) was already causing me discomfort, so I had kind of stopped doing normal activities like golfing. Since I didn't actually have any tissue bulging through, the surgeon recommended I try to go back to living with normal activity, and if I couldn't manage it, only then to do the surgery. We all know how that story went.

And real shocker here, but I must not recover as well as some people. It's sort of advertised as a "good as new, in 6 weeks" type deal. The days/weeks following surgery weren't a big deal. I took one pain pill the afternoon I left the hospital, and that was it. But I felt like I still had a hernia on the worse of the two sides for months after surgery. And on the side that wasn't bad, which I never had any discomfort on, all the sudden I did have discomfort, that also lasted for months. I'd say it was a solid 6 months before things improved to pre-hernia levels. Over a year later now, I'm mostly good as new. Still the occasional not normal feeling, but basically nothing.

I never realized how common inguinal hernia is until I had one. It's something like 25% or more of men that get them and have surgery.

I think I went with DJ this week, I already forgot. I think I picked him and had every intention of going back and looking a little harder. Never did.

I'm guessing most people would do this rather than play him this week.

I picked Piercy. After last week's debacle, I'm just trying to match the field as much as I can. unfortunately, no one close to me took him.

By the way, while I was out of the country, I was thinking i'd ask Sully to put my picks in for me. Seriously. He's always struck me as a responsible guy who stays on top of obligations. He's the "minute taker" for the Hive.

Now THAT would be my WORST pick of the year.

I'm not sure what ever gave you the impression that I was responsble about meeting deadlines. If I had to pick a responsible person who was most likely to meet a deadline and remember details, it'd be FAbb.

Yesterday was apparently the anniversary of our first date. When I get home I should probably bring up how I also forgot about the one and done, so she shouldn't be upset about it.

that's cool with me. Maybe commish could weigh-in in case he's worried about top 2 collusion or something. I'm not worried about it.

I'll tell him in advance. 2more isn't going to change his picks based on what Im' doing but maybe to avoid any hint of impropriety, you should do it.

i'm going to have to give you "general" ideas, i think. Like I can't tell you "A, B adn C" and then "C" isn't playing. I'll probably do something like, "here's my 3 guys but if they're not playing, take the top guy from the second column."

Also, it should only be 2 weeks. i'm just concerned about getting back and drawing a blank on it because I'll have a lot going on.

I think you have a ton of venues that are public accessible that could host US Opens ... there of course would be stipulations to doing so and you may have to adjust expecations as far as scoring and onsite viewing because some. You'd just have to adjust conditions (fairway and green firmness, rough, etc...). Bethpage, Pebble, Chambers, Kiawah, Streamsong Black (or Red and Blue if you wanted), Torrey, Pinehurst, TPC Harding, Whistling Straits, Arcadia, Primland, Erin Hills, Pasatiempo. Maybe Bandon > @SullGolf said:

> I can't find anything, but I'd be curious how many winners went through the qualifying process rather than having an automatic exemption. I can't find a source that shows how all the winners qualified. An amateur hasn't won since the Great Depression. I can't see a non-PGA-Tour player as winner any time in my lifetime, so I'm not sure how far back you have to go to find that.

>

> What I'm getting at with the above is, if you only want the best players and don't care about the others, why even have the local/sectional qualifying process at all? The best players play on the PGA Tour. Period. Then you have a bunch of "relatively terrible" golfers who can't hack it on the PGA Tour. Maybe you have an occasional guy who isn't on Tour but is about to be, or someone on the Euro Tour who likes to live and stay in Europe. If the point is only to find the best golfers, surely the qualifying process adds nothing to the talent pool. You're talking about the worst players that are in the US Open. The bottom of the barrell. What a waste of everyone's time. Thousands upon thousands of dollars and volunteer hours wasted on a process that adds nothing of value. You could ditch the qualifying process entirely and have no change in outcome to the top of the event.

>

> That was all quite facetious from me. I don't think the point should be solely to maximize the talent in the field. There's value in having an event that isn't just another stop on the Tour. There's value in having an aspirational thing for normal golfers to seek out. It's okay to reward golfers who have 0% chance of winning at the expense of people who have 0.001% chance of winning. Let the other PGA Tour events maximize their talent pool on a weekly basis. Make the US Open about something different.

>

Just a thought - what if you just make the whole field go through the qualifying process. I want to say there are about 55 exemptions or so. I know they are usually the best in the world that get these, but I'd actually think it would be a true "Open" if everyone had the same shot and had to go through qualifying to make it. Would the best of the best make it? Maybe, maybe not. I know this will never happen for monetary reasons for the USGA, imagining if Dustin or Tiger or Brooks missed it. Give one exemption to last year's winner to defend their title, and everyone must make it through. It may or may not give Joe Schmoe more of a chance since there are now 54 more slots to fill.

Courses like Streamsong and Primland just dont have the surrounding logistics to support something like a major. I just thought it was an interesting mental exercise because it sounds easy to say there are a ton of great public courses out there that could host a major. But other than ones that already have hosted one - I dont really think there are that many.

Tanzania. The cities have it. I'm not sure they do here. . .

We'll be in a city for the first couple days so I should be able to do the travelers, but I'll be in touch with HBD if I want to override. Pretty sure I'm taking Bubba at the Travelers. then, there's Rocket Mortgage and they've actually released a lot of field (some decent names), so I'll have an idea, then it's the 3M open and I have no idea.

You'll most likely have it even in the middle of nowhere lodges. Now while you will technically "have internet access", its not Verizon Fios out there. When we were staying up near the border with Kenya, the entire lodge, guests, employees, drivers etc shared one single satellite internet connection that was hooked up to an old Netgear wireless router. It was enough to get/receive text messages and emails - but nothing else.

The Volvo isn't even his! Well, I guess it became 50% his, when he married Mrs. Sully.

Can we get Mrs. Sully to fire in City's picks? She's clearly the responsible adult in that house.
