I am glad we were down there when we were. I was just talking to a buddy who was supposed to be in Florida this weekend to play Medalist. Obviously he had to cancel and is bummed. Hopefully his connection will come through for him again.

So my anniversary is this weekend and I bought Mrs DC a new cast iron skillet that she wanted from a blacksmith in Charleston. It was @ 5 times the cost of the Lodge skillet that I've had for 15 years or so but it has a polished/smooth base that looks fantastic and curved edges to make it easier to cook in. Its also the next size up, we tend to use the cast iron more than anything so it will be a good investment. Also bought some smoked bologna and bacon from a smokehouse that we've been to a few times in GA - they had to close for a while but they sold all of the product they had in stock via mail or local pickup (similar to what Jack Rose seems to be doing).

New skillet and 4 lbs of bacon and bologna...fabulous.

Any more bread pics? I feel like I could trade a pound of smoked bologna for a fresh loaf of bread and it would be win win for everyone.

Do you answer? My brother play less than 5 tmes a year and does this to me all the time. He's just clueless on etiquette. So, I answer him while I am swinging. Doesn't bother me.

It's more that he can't wait the 10 seconds or so to say whatever's on his mind, so he whispers to the other players in the group while someone is going through their routine and eventually hitting the ball. His whisper is as loud as people using their normal voice. He's clueless. There is so much down time in golf, you don't need to tell me something when someone is getting ready to hit the ball.

My cast iron is a Griswold that might be 80 years old. I got it from my grandmother when she died.

Bread. This just came out like 10 minutes ago. It's a fail. I either used too much water or I overproofed causing it to fall. It tastes good and it's really chewy, but it's way too dense.

You can tell it's a little raw in there. it was dead before I put it in the oven, but it's edible.

Flour was wiped out when I got groceries earlier this week, as were a lot of things. The amount of panic shopping happening is absolutely maddening.

 

Somebody told me in NYC, they've actually gone out and unbolted the rims from hoops in the parks, to keep people from playing.

I had to drop off a Fedex package at Safeway yesterday and I had to wonder - given all the stores we have nearby, dont we eventually reach a point where everyone has already gone to the store to panic buy?

cityDame just went to store. TP aisle is still. . .wiped out.

She said people are getting a little nuts. She was going to pass a woman in an aisle and the woman covered her face totally with her arm, turned around and walked out of the aisle.

Neighbors are organizing social distancing happy hour tonight. Everyone on porches at 5:15 or so. It will be the same "half" of people that always show up at neighborhood social stuff, but it'll be cool.

Movie rec : "The Platform" on Netflix. It's in Spanish, but watch the first 5 minutes and tell me you're not in. It's paced well and is only 90 minutes long. It gets right into it, then builds naturally, then ends. It's #4 on 'Flix right now so it's not just me.

It feels like it'll be a while before "normal" stock is available on some things. It starts with the initial wave of scumbags who go out and panic hoard all the things. Now it's public knowledge those things are becoming hard to find. Otherwise non-hoarders, that are just paranoid feel compelled to seek out and buy those things, basically out of fear/anxiety. People with 20 rolls of TP at home go out and buy a big pack, just because it's on the shelf. Add in the people that actually need to buy those things, and it's hard to keep stock.

Counter point...Those that bought the essential things and maybe one extra (not hoarding...everything blamed on hoarding) do NOT have to go back out and prepped for the long haul of stay-at-home, meaning they do NOT have to go back out for quite some time.
