I got a heads up from a friend in the Leesburg Govt that there was going to be a lock down. I hit the ABC and doubled my stash of Rum and Vodka. Looks like no matter what ABC is exempt from any closures.

Funny note, anyone familiar with Ocean City, MD.... When a hurricane is coming and they decide to mandatory evacuate, they close the liquor stores first... then announce. Growing up there we learned to always hit the liquor store early in case of a hurricane. Never evacuated, never needed to, even after 5 mandatories in the last 12 years living there.

So, Doom Eternal is legit. The skill ceiling on this game is so GD high, I'm not even playing on Nightmare yet and this game has owned my ass probably 50 times or so through 3 levels. It's nice to have a distraction for a bit and chainsawing demons is a good way to let off some steam.

Corona Shutdown Book Talk Tuesday :

First, the new NK Jemisin joint dropped today. I know that some of you have read the Broken Earth Trilogy. This sounds pretty good. Timing is great because wife and I are both like a day out from finishing what we're reading and we like her stuff.

Second. . .a light reading general recommendation. . .I've been reading a series called "The Lost Fleet". It's basically about a spaceship armada that gets lost behind enemy lines in space. They're trying to get home through a series of "jump points" and face a lot of space battles on the way. What's makes it more than just battles is that the Commander of the fleet (this is like a chapter 1 spoiler alert so if you want to read these, stop now) is a former commander from 100 years ago who has been in a life suspension pod for 100 years. In the intervening 100 years, he has been made into a war hero, but all of his philosophies have been corrupted and distorted from his original intent so commanding the fleet is like a battle within a battle.

I can't believe Sparrows is going to stay open. we're done.

Turns out the changes yesterday came bc a guest of a member went on to test positive last week so they shut everything down but the course.

Cant be far behind, I'd be stunned if we weren't closed by the end of the day.

If this lasts any period of time I'd be equally stunned if I didnt order a driving range mat and a SkyTrak to use outdoors with the net I have.

One of my local courses sent an email yesterday afternoon that they were staying open. Restaurant in clubhouse is open but carryout only.

There were about 8 of us trying to decipher a text from Woodmore last night. On Sunday evening we all got an email saying the course would be walking only starting on 3/24. Then yesterday Hogan did his thing. At almost 9pm last night we all got a text from the club (and assumed the worst) saying "Just as a reminder starting tomorrow March 23rd, all members will be required to walk. Tee times will start at 9am moving forward, thank you for your support during these times."

Today is the 24th, not the 23rd. We were hoping it was just a typo for the date and that it wasn't a delayed text from Sunday night. Soooo, it sounds like we might be open? I've not been proactive and tried calling yet because the guessing game is more fun.

Woodmore is in MD. MD courses were ordered closed.

If Woodmore is open for play, they will be shut down and probably fined.

I would think Woodmore could potentially get around the whole closure by saying “we are a gated community, we are ‘closed’ and so we can’t control who walks on to the course while we are closed” while at the same time putting members on basically an honor system to go out and play and police themselves.

 

I am not a lawyer and if the shop is open I would think that would sink the loophole theory I presented above.

Looks like golf courses - in general - in VA *can* remain open. I guess there will always be exceptions though, like Fairfax County closed all the county courses.

Personally, I'm not venturing out of the house except to walk the dog or run to grocery store at dawn if we are unable to get things we want/need delivered.

I do think that golfing has got to be one of the safest activities available to us at this point, as long as common sense is being deployed.

 

I have found two wonderful parks that nobody visits before 9am to sling some nuggets around. Wearing a rut in my office carpet from putting.

 

Sidenote: somehow, this pandemic has resulted in me purchasing about 10 new headcovers and about 4 new golf hats. Unexpected, but awesome, side effect.

My gym sent me home with a huge amount of goodies. I'm one of the lucky ones from what I've been told. I have a full bench and squat setup in the basement and have resorted to working out every day to pass an hour-hour and a half. Our peloton gets delivered tomorrow and I'm going after Rory's scores. Despite my diet being garbage, i'm down a few lbs and feeling more comfortable with a bar on my back even since tearing my meniscus skiing a few years back.

it wont be long till i cave on a putting mat. Figure i should work on all of my weaknesses while i can.

Golf for me during this allergy season probably has its own unique risks. If there are people spreading the virus on surfaces commonly touched at the course, there's no way I can make it without touching my face.

i put the some flags back up in the backyard. right now i have 60, 70, 80 yards. i located the 118 yard cup. i think the 50 yard cup got covered. i'm thinking i'm moving the 90 yard and 100 yard cup to 40 yards and 50 yards

Yup. I got the ferrules from them. I don’t know how to do the work so I need to have my buddy do it. I have mizuno irons and steel fibers so figured something with a little gray would look good.

Anyone tried the Perfect Practice Mat? Seems like it might be the best one for carpet.
