Great time out there with Dom, CJ and Tex at Woodmore.

 

That course exposes my weaknesses every single time. I can get around Chesapeake Hills hitting 4 irons on most tees (It’s more about placement than distance) and only need to hit driver on 3 holes. Woodmore is more demanding off the tee and I still haven’t been able to hold it together for 18 holes. It gave me things to work on though so it was a positive experience.

 

I did have a drive that went -1 yards though. I topped it and it went in the dirt and spun back a yard. That was fun haha

 

Woodmore had the cups installed upside down. It was a good solution. Conditions were A+ as usual and the company was top shelf.

NW was an absolute blast.

Teed off with Ash, Mat, and Mark R. If you havent played with those guys in a while, you should. NW had cut pool noodles around the stick. It's a little narrower than the hole so it probably left about .25" around the hole itself. The ruling of the day was if you hit the noodle, you're holed. Thinking this was going to make my day a lot easier, we went to the 10th hole completely cold - no warmup swings/range. We ended up playing best ball against the three in front of us, and i took a straight up bet against rammy. Inside our group we played wolf, which i managed to amass zero points through 9 holes and it looked like I was going to have huge payouts going into the back 9, but I started catching a break on the back 9 and it was much closer, though i still finished dead last. Our group managed to go 11 under net best ball, with a bunch of gross birdies.

I ended up falling to Mat by a stroke at the end. Group hang at the end was interrupted by the MCG guys telling us not to gather and definitely dont drink beers in the parking lot, felt like a teenager again.

I have not had a PCC adjustment to any of my scores this year. Part of it is that I think some people are still not posting their scores on the same day so we might not be getting the 8 scores necessary for the PCC to kick in. We should be getting more scores posted per day now that the weather is warming up.

Glad to have gotten out there and played yesterday. 13 showed up and seemed to have a good time. Played with eagle and a buddy of mine filling in for SeatWarmer. Third group out. Great walk, so peaceful out there with no carts zooming around. So many laughs were had, thankfully, because my golf game was laughable. Not 100% where my confidence in my driver went but it’s gone. 95 yesterday was bad. That will prob be the last round for some time.

we had them in upside down all weekend.

Had a 4v4 on Saturday. Hit the ball well but I'm just not getting the ball in the hole. We had rolled that morning and I think I had about 5 chips that almost went in, rolled out to 5/6 feet and then I lipped out coming back.

Yesterday, I was first group out with TVJ and we had a 3rd who cancelled. We played in 2:20. I went 2 down on the first two holes and scrapped back to 1 down, then missed a bunny on 12 to go down 2, got it back to 1 on 16 and then on 18 got up and down short-sided to an evil pin for a great par, which could be my last for a while. Governor might be shutting us down at 11 today.

Got in a ton of golf for the last week, though. Wife was very much like, "well any day could be your last, so go ahead." Also, we're spending so much time together that I don't think she was unhappy I was getting out of the house.

I'm making a strong effort to limit alcohol and TV intake, but we started "Tiger King" on Netflix. it's about all these people who buy/sell/raise/etc big cats. . .these nuts who live in the middle of Oklahoma with 80 tigers.

It has cults, dismemberments, potential murders, music videos, mullets, missing teeth and that's just through two episodes.

There's been a lot of crazy rumors out there and "self tests" and they're mostly stupid, and this sounds like one, but if you lose your sense of smell. . .maybe self-quarantine.

My legs are freaking sore, I am totally not used to carrying and there are some back 9 hills that are absolute torture. Tried a new driver shaft and had the worst driving day I've had in quite some time. Add that in with with a few untimely skulled chips and it's just another standard mid 80's round in March for me. Yay. Over the last 4-5 holes I'm pretty sure the temperature dropped 10-15 degrees, and the wind seemed to double in strength. It was a nasty finish.

3 Good Things:

Absolutely piping my trusty Fli Hi on multiple holes, including driving a short par 4 resulting in 2020's first eagle.I hit a couple great recovery shots to counteract some of the worst drives of the day, and didn't compound bad with stupid.Fairways are being aerated already and if the course stays open or reopens sometime later on, there will be less bare lies to chip out of around the greens.

Woodmore asks you shape your tee ball a certain way each hole. It will balloon your handicap, make your handicap travel to easier courses quite well, and teach you a lesson in course management. 7, 8, 13 and 15 are have been sinking my battleship last couple rounds.

I walked three holes last night and like an idiot went right from the range with 19 clubs in the bag, including the orange whip knockoff and a bunch of other garbage. Total rookie move. The dining room/bar is closed but they are doing curbside delivery for to go orders including alcohol, were four or five cars lined up last night. Good sign and at least keeps some revenue coming in.

Was demoing a couple of Ben Hogan PTX Pro irons. Pretty good demo program, for $20 they ship you two irons and it includes a return shipping label. Unfortunately - and this is company wide I think - they have a very limited shaft offering. I think I would like the heads normally but the Recoil shaft that they use is too light. Going to demo the new 790s this week if the club is still open.

Ball golf was really good this weekend. At Woodmore, I played the same tees and had the exact same pin locations two days in a row and I managed to improve by 12 strokes. The course has started to really turn the corner and the greens are smooth and fast right now.

The course is now mandatory walking with no guests allowed. That is probably my favorite rule of all-time. That will really lighten the load on the tee sheet and the course conditions should continue to improve.

I was all jazzed up to get the season going, but probably won't play for a while at this point. Between the scheduling impacts of what's happening, and I bet a forced closure of courses coming sooner than later, it's just not likely to happen. I did get a few garage cuts in last week, just to keep some momentum. I've yet to really get any motivation or momentum behind rolling cream soda practice putts, so maybe getting on track there will be my other golf outlet for the time being.

I feel bad for the grill girls. I bought a beer on Saturday "to go" (parking lot drinking) and tipped her 25 bucks. I'm not leaving my bag in the bag room so I've tried to hook those guys up for not touching my clubs.

I'm trying to see if we can get a letter out to members where if their minimums expire at the end of March, they go by the grill and tip the rest of their minimum if they can't use it.

I think season 2 of the Over My Dead Body podcast was about the guy in Tiger King. It was a good listen and I plan to watch the netflix show soon. I almost watched it this weekend but ended up watching The Dirt. I loved me some Motley Crue back in high school. Still do, but only up to the Dr Feelgood album.

I can host golf starved Marylanders at Army / Navy in either Arlington or Fairfax, at least for the time being. Both courses are in good shape and are getting lots of play with so many Government / DoD folks forced to telework.
