I usually do my own work on irons but didn't have time and had the golf Galaxy in Jessup do some re shaft work. They did a really good job and th price was reasonable. CC wanted like 4-5 times more.

Yes. Nick is going to do them for me but the shop is closed due to Hogan’s letter. He could probably do it at home but I want him to recheck my loft and lies and make sure the SW doesn’t change.

Built at the house so couldn’t get them checked before putting them back together ... nothing lead tape couldn’t solve

Guess it all depends if he used tip weights or mixed some tungsten in the Epoxy to build them the first time

i'm not really sure about the whole traveling to VA to play golf thing. it is unnecessary. i'm sensitive to the mental health issues isolation can cause but watch a movie while facetimeing with a family member or something. at least wait like two weeks to evaluate what we know then.

 

it's weird to me that one of the biggest lessons in all of this has been completely missed: live a healthier lifestyle. stop smoking. exercise. eat reasonably. keep your weight in check. sleep enough. we're kinda not supposed to say that nowadays because of the whole "who are you to judge me" thing. but. it's real and it's true.

If anyone travels to VA play be smart

Bring hand sanitizer, don’t touch anyone’s balls, divots, flag, etc

if you ride a cart- wipe the thing down from roof to the tires and ride by yourself.

I'm swinging a five iron in the living room with some regularity.

I pulled out the putting mat again. I haven't made anything lately and I think I'd gotten away from my stroke. Hitting hundreds of putts on the mat feels good.

I'm planning on doing some chipping in the nearby parks, but the weather hasn't been nice.

I think I'm playing Quail Valley on Friday. PA courses still seem to be open.

Around the house : My patio has a "trough" around it that is filled with gravel, but when we had it put in, we decided to grow moss on top of the gravel. Long story short, there's way too much soil in the trough and all I get is weeds and very little moss. So yesterday, I dug out all the gravel/soil by hand, started washing off other gravel from another part of my yard (put in container, spray with hose, swirl around like rinsing rice or panning for gold), and carrying over and dumping in trough. It was back breaking. One container would get me about 10 inches of trough and I have about 40/50 feet of trough (I'm 3/4 done). And the only place the gravel was thick enough to raid was under the stairs. I sprayed the inside of the trough with weed killer and after I refill with gravel, I'm going to really spray it with round up. Basically, this is a job I've put off doing for like 3 years.

Since I'm sitting around so much I've been very conscious of caloric intake. I've cut back on alcohol; I'm eating sensibly, and getting in yoga, and now some hacky sack. I don't weigh myself, but I've probably taken some weight off. I can tell by my belt notches.

My back alley has become a kind of playground. I was hacky sacking at lunch yesterday and a guy from one block up came down with his kids to shoot hoops 2 doors down. When I was doing the gravel, there was a family teaching their kid to ride a bike while the toddler toddled around. That guy is Italian and told me his family is dead center of the virus in Italy and they are locked down.

There's this one kid whose only mode of communication while playing is screaming at the top of his lungs no matter how far away the kid he's talking to is. Like he's riding bikes next to a kid and screams "LET'S GO TO THE PARK" like the other kid is a block away. I like that kid.

No doubt. I LOVE golf, but I think we're veering into the territory of missing the point of all the measures being taken. When golf courses were clearly allowed to be open, and people were still going out to play their local track, great. Now it's clear the intent is for all golf courses in MD to close, but you've got apparently some courses/clubs trying to finagle their way into staying open in some capacity, and people talking about road tripping out of state to go play... sheesh. I don't think "unless you have an essential reason to leave your house, then you should stay in your homes" could be any more clear. Take care of what matters. Golf will be there on the other side of all this.

Do people really consider driving to VA to play golf "traveling"? Some of you drive further within MD to play with each other more than some will drive to "travel" to VA. I guess my question would be, if the course down the street from you was open - would you play? If not, OK, I get it. But if you would, then driving a half hour to play golf doesnt seem that nuts to me.

We all need to be careful but then again we don't need to go insane either.

I don't think I'm breaking the spirit or the letter of the law to get in my car, walk to the first tee, play my own ball, then get back in my car and drive home.

Literally the ONLY thing that gives me any reservations about it would be a feeling of "guilt", like I'm having fun while other people can't, but I don't let that control my actions. I get why the state has to shut things down but it's not like playing golf is even in the same ballpark as saying "oh, I'm going to socialize because it's only one small cocktail party. what could go wrong?"

I heard in a group text that Sparrows had a "don't ask, don't tell" policy going on. Like, "we're closed but we're leaving the gate open."

I had a woman giving me grief yesterday when we went down to the cafeteria to get lunch - where she used cash. Using cash is one of the nastiest, dirtiest things you can do especially right now. But there she is asking me how I can go play golf when we should all be at home. GTFO.

And before someone wants to educate me on how this all works, please know, this has been my life at work every day for the last 90 days or so, including nights and some weekends.

In PA you are gonna get paired with all the folks from New York itching to play since everything in their state is closed. That’s why the courses are closed when golf is otherwise safe. It’s why the streets in DC are closed even though walking around and looking at some tree flowers is pretty safe.

Im sure you guys are fine doing legal things in a safe way. I’m sure I’d be the same if I chose to play. But it does encourage all the less smart people to go out with their buddies from the retirement community and share some fist bumps.

I switched my clubs back to the Sun Mountain 4.5 last night. I've been carrying a lot lately and the Motocaddy bag - which is awesome in every other respect - has a little squeak to it now. Its maddening. It locks into the cart perfectly but its become maddening to walk with.

Long view discussion question: Does Basic Income get its start soon, say within the year?

Going to go with yes. With unemployment benefits going with a new $600 week increase- meaning a $985 Average unemployment check till June- this is the test model. Are people going to suddenly head to their favorite restaurant, movie theater, or go on a week vacation after the shutdown ends? I think this will be a very slow recovery.

Also, with the $600 increase, you may see more Golf courses and places that were fighting to stay open decide to lay off for the benefit of the employees. In a way, if your guy was making $500 a week- and now it goes to $985- your doing the guy a huge favor AND he gets to self quarantine till the end of June.

I was talking to somebody at work this week. His parents live near Hobbits, which closed 3/15. They went on walks along the course after it closed, and saw people playing. Given the reputation of the "cool kids" there thinking they're hot $hit, that's about 0.0% surprising.

You're in Virginia, DC. The courses haven't been directed to close. Great. Have at it.

Here in MD, they have been directed to close. They should be closed. The guidance from the governor of the state is to not be out without an essential reason. I don't think golf qualifies as essential.

Personal choice. I think I disagree. I dont think you need to be out partying like those Spring Breakers every single day of the week for a month straight - those kids are morons. Shockingly - some of them started getting sick. And I dont even think you need to be going out and playing on a packed golf course every single day either. But the precautions that clubs are taking now are as safe as you can be save for locking yourself in a box for a couple weeks.

And yeah I definitely dont think people locking themselves indoors for 2-3 weeks without being outdoors and getting some meaningful mental wellness in their lives is any good for you either.

Now if someone wants to tell me I have to limit my out of house activities to going to the store and grabbing items that have been pawed 100 times and being in line with a million other people breathing all over me and you want to tell me thats "better" for me - meh OK. Again, I'll respectfully disagree.
