Good to see at least some of you are actually watching this...

The Fedex playoffs just seems like a pure money grab to me.

It is a pure money grab, but so are all the other tournaments in golf. I just view it like a tour event with a lot of big names in the field. Seems pretty harmless to me.

Yeah probably so. Guess I prefer events that have a little more prestige or history. It's not like Arnie or Jack were out there in their prime chasing fedex points and dollars but it's a different era controlled by the sponsors.

Oh they were chasing sponsorship dollars. Palmer is the guy that pioneered all of the endorsement stuff we see today. Nicklaus wasn't afraid of making money from sponsors either.

Snizzle, you should look up the World Series of Golf which was a similar money grab to the FedEx Cup. It paid out far more money than the majors and had a very limited field. Jack and Arnold had zero problem playing in that event. Check this out:

Not sure why anyone wouldn't want to see the top 125, 100, guys this year all teeing it up, whether you call it a major, Playoffs or what have you. Tour Champ with only 30 guys is a little more limited of a field than I'd prefer, but what are you going to do about it? At least this isn't a skins game hit and giggle.

We're 10 years in now, I think it's time for everyone to stop pretending they're too cool for the playoffs. I bet in the '30's there were people saying the Masters was a gimmick, too?

Not every week can be the Open or US Open. Surely this is better than everyone shutting it down between PGA Championship and Ryder/Presidents Cup, right?

Big three golf wasn’t about money......

Come on, they were all about money as well as winning.....

Why is it a problem, if they ARE about money?

Palmer had more endorsement money than anyone, and Nicklaus was bent about it.....their competitiveness continued long after their best playing days

Paul Casey, the apparent "quintessential journeyman", is once again on the first page of the leaderboard in a big event.

Meh. I'll take Fleetwood of Nazareth any day.

You win Golfwrx today.

I can't take credit. Pretty sure I've seen that on WRX or twitter or somewhere before.

Just pretend the next three weeks are the Westchester Classic, the Bank of Boston Classic and the Western Open with much better fields.

It's neat and all to see Tiger take those shots again and his back doesn't crack in half. But an ease 3w/5w whatever that was into the center of the fairway for an easy set up to birdie would have been just fine there.

That decision to try the risky shot backfired big time. Very bad lie on the 3rd shot and now he's struggling to save par.

It wasn't just the pros. Bob Jones once said he wouldn't cross the street for less than $5000. (or 6 billion dollars in today's money...kind of)

Tiger has to S-Can that putter now...right? He never came close to putting this bad with his Scotty.

Hah. Yeah I would too. But somebody tried to tell me in another thread that Paul Casey is the "quintessential journeyman", which I found blasphemous.
