Poll: Will Tiger Break Jacks Major Record?

you don't return from ACL injuries just like that. We're not machines and plenty of variable when going under the knife. For every success story there's 2x as much as complication post surgery/rehab. The fact that Anthony Kim is not being on the tour really shows you all you need to know about the mental barrier Tiger had to go through and how it's NOT easy. Some injuries do linger and some will cause compensation. He broke his body early in this decade with swing change and military style training. That can't be overlooked. Sure it was self inflicting. But injuries are injuries.

You can’t accuse someone of moving goal posts when you clearly aren’t reading the actual posts. Example, you said I was blaming Foley for Tiger not getting wins. I never said that. I said Tiger rebuilt his swing in 2011 and got injured. I never blamed Foley for anything, many do, but I didn’t say it. I didn’t even mention Foley’s name. You’re just remembering every argument you’ve ever heard about Foley and attributing it to me.

And saying someone has issues with addiction isn’t “moving goalposts”. Last I checked, your brain is a part of your body.

It would be monumental, I cannot fathom the excitement. I'm being completely serious here, but given his popularity across the entire sport's world, not just golf, him getting to 18 or 19 would be one of the biggest events/moments in sporting history. It would be on the level of the Miracle on Ice, hell the Tour Championship felt like a Super Bowl parade, can you imagine major number 18 or 19???

PowderedToastMan:

“I didn’t even mention Foley’s name.”

–––––––

PowderedToastMan, yes you DID mention “Foley’s name”… as you can see from the direct quote from YOU below.

–––––––

PowderedToastMan:

“Completely overhauls his swing with Foley and injures Achilles.”

–––––––

Please read your own posts before making things up as it’s not a good look.

And from what I’ve read here Lowheel never said “you said I was blaming Foley for Tiger not getting wins”… where did he specifically state this? (Please quote him directly and include a post # for us to see for ourselves).

From what I can see of your back & forth conversations I think Lowheel is right about you “rewriting history to suit your beliefs”. And I’m a fellow Tiger fan myself.

Everybody leaves out end of '14 until now conveniently...and if airing your entire basket of dirty laundry, for someone who's been the epitome of "private", isn't debilitating you're not human. Get your world rocked and turned upside down and I'd like to see your "at work" performance go unscathed. People that belittle the effect of psychological hurdles and behavioral struggles have had a pretty posh life and don't understand what "life" really is.

So him sleeping around with other women for for 7-8 years and then finally getting caught counts as an injury? I certainly didnt belittle his "struggles" because I dont care about his personal stuff. as a side note, do you think hes the first athlete/pro golfer to have their life screwed up because of divorce or marriage problems or substance abuse? why does tiger get special consideration in your book? Watson lost probably 3-5 years of his prime due to drinking too much and having the shakes on the course and trembling hands when putting 3-4 footers because he was hung over. It seems to me your last sentence shows the utter disconnect and contempt you have for anybody who doesnt see things your way. you do realize some people thrive professionally when facing personal tragedy and adversity. How do you know today that tiger having such a chaotic personal life in his prime didnt allow him to have that lazer focus and motivation on the course? these generalizations you are making are a simpler way of saying "what if". You dont know any more than i do how tiger felt during that time or if his performance was affected.

Is this an ironic post or something? youre doing everything youre accusing me of doing. you didnt read any of my posts and contradict yourself in your own posts. At some point you have to be honest and answer at least one question that is asked of you. You literally brought up foley and have the nerve to post this?? wow man, i cant believe what im reading. You didnt refute a single thing i posted for the time frame i posted which is telling. You pivoted to drugs and personal embarrassments and so on.

the bolded is the only agenda youre trying to push over and over. thats not an injury

Youre not having a good faith discussion, that much is clear

Was it ever implied that I was engaging in good faith discussion with you? I did invite you to go yell into a giant hole after all.

I only referenced Foley to establish a timeline. There was never any commentary about if it affected his game or not. Congratulations, a fact checker discovered that I said the word “Foley” without providing any context.

I have no interest in continuing this. I’m confident in the people who agree with me that Tiger is the better golfer (see: pretty much every great player who’s been asked the question, including Jack’s rivals that you use as an argument as for why Jack was better). Also, please consider using paragraphs and punctuation in the future. If not for me, do it for the young people on this site.

I’m out!

Edit: and as a last reminder, the better golfer isn’t necessarily the GOAT!

Who gives a damn about goalposts anymore, Tiger was troubled for at least 6 of the last 10 years, and I cannot wait for this thread to die like the Hero threads from earlier this year when he does win a major. Not only that, but football talk in the forums is frowned upon! :taunt:

Is a self-deprecating supporter really a fan/supporter at all? We all know of whom I speak....discuss.

Well, you brought me back again. I can’t help but take the bait. I have poor impulse control, what can I say.

This argument literally started with you having an issue with me saying Tiger is the better golfer. Go back and check.

I’ve tried arguing point by point with you but you only think your arguments are valid. There’s no point arguing with someone who won’t hear your side. I also don’t want to argue about what are injuries and what isn’t. Tiger had issues that kept him off the golf course for a long stretch. I assumed it was common knowledge but you disagree. That’s fine, you can argue about it with someone else. Injuries or not, he didn’t play much.

I fell into a hole once so I don’t yell in them anymore.

I’m sorry you don’t like me. I should have been nicer to you. I’m sorry I called you a grumpy old fart. You are the smarter person and my intellect is, at best, poor to awful. I do think I have better grammar and overall writing skills though. I mean, the correctness of this post is admirable and I wrote it on an iPhone while “indisposed”.

Can we be done now?

I have a question I’ve wondered about.

It’s quoted on here a lot (thanks BSC!) what Watson and Trevon said.

Those answers, I believe, were given late 90’s early 2000’s? When Tiger was in his prime.

In lieu of what happened with Tiger’s career, do you think they answer the same way now? Obviously it would help if the question was defined a little better.

My god man, are you you okay? Seriously, its really sad at this point. get a grip man. I dont know you or dislike you, you clearly have issues with anyone that disagrees with you. I get it man going to "sex rehab" for 2 months is an injury in your books. you made questionable unverified statements about his health and what he could have done had it not been for his health that were challenged with actual #s and facts and this is how you chose to respond.

You're a big boy, deal with it

It’s a good question. People tend to get swept up in the moment, so it’s possible some of those greats wouldn’t be so quick to say Tiger is better. Time shouldn’t matter, but it does.

Some players, like Hogan, the legend grows and they get better as time passes. With Tiger, in my own experience, I’ve seen the opposite. The same could be said about Nicklaus too I suppose. Kind of interesting.

At this point let's just leave the future to decide itself. Tiger Woods is one of the best golfers of all time(top 2), he's finally playing well enough again to win, and his record over the next 5+ years will speak for itself in the end.
