Having said something really stupid in relation to the poor lady who lost her eye the other day, it's good to know you think there are at least 2 people ahead of me!

 

Still think NTL was just trying to give the OP the reality he said he wasn't afraid of, but I'll let you guys wrangle on that. OP certainly has a couple of decent results but throwing up mid-80s in easy to enter mini tour events (and at least one really good round!) and no real strong am record after all this time, isn't exactly suggesting more than some casual musing on a Friday afternoon. Have to respect being in the arena, however, whatever the skill level and if I was a +3.6 instead of where I'm at, I'm sure I'd be musing a bit from time to time as well (but still would know better).

Actually it was lil Ava that suggested that I use more "happy face" emoticons with my posts, lololol. You’re my inspiration. By the way the OP and I exchanged very nice messages. Really! I just think he’s got to have somebody closer to home that knows his game better than a bunch of hacks on GolfWRX. I know a few guys in my area who could break par without sweating. They can’t compete at the web.com level. It’s damn hard to make. Maybe this kid can make it? Yeah. But , once again, come out to a basically anonymous forum for advice of that kind of magnitude to life decision???

It would be pretty hard for a +4 to not have a legit shot if they work on golf full time. They get 2-3 strokes better and they are pretty much there. Are they going to win a major? Unclear, but they certainly would have the potential to compete as a professional.

A tournament +4 I’d agree. My club has a guy that goes between +4 and +5 but he’s posting casual rounds to get there. He’s played in a bunch of mini tour events and I’m not sure he’s won any money at all.

My feelings are going to be different to others. I would personally think it's a foolish endeavor. You are far more likely to spend years at it, not capable of really making it, not making enough money to even be comfortable, and basically just throwing away an important decade when it comes to setting yourself up in life.

 

If I look at someone I know that chased their dreams, they are now 50, broke, no kids, no job skills outside of sport, which won't be enough to get him above minimum wage here. However, they have traveled the world 20 times, have hundreds of stories, met lists of interesting people, and have made friends everywhere in the world. If you asked me if I'd trade my life for theirs, I'd absolutely say no. If you asked them if they'd trade their life for me, they'd absolutely say no.

 

For me, it all comes down to this. If you are worried about leaving your girlfriend, or losing a decent job, or saving up for a deposit on a house, then this golf life is probably not for you. But if in your heart those things don't matter, and a golf dream, and the life it breeds is more appealing, then you probably need to give it a go, or you will likely regret it.

I don’t see it more than a 5-7 year endeavor. You will know by then if you wll ever make it. Life really is not as important as most people make it out to be. If you believe you know it’s just a milisecond in eternity. You want to make the most of your time and enjoy yourself. But even if you do make it and you get old and look back, you will realize that no matter what you did it wasn’t as great as you thought it would be. Because at that age you will know what the point of this mission on earth is all about.
