Zach Johnson splits with caddie

Why did Zach switch to PXG in the first place?

Money and he liked the way the irons looked and felt, but he also had to use the driver which totally destroyed his driving stats until he switched.

Ok. Interesting that Zach's iron game has suffered the most under PXG.

Bob Parsons said that - at least for some Tour players - that he didn't pay them more than their previous deals. Did PXG pay Zach more than Titleist?

The story goes that Parsons invited ZJ to Scottsdale National for a lunch and some golf. He asked ZJ to write down an amount that it would take him to get him to sign with PXG and leave Titleist. ZJ wrote a figure down and Parsons didnt even look at the amount and said welcome to the PXG family. The figure of what he's being paid is obviously unknown but its got to be more than what Titleist were paying him. I heard this story from a genuine source, I dont have any reason to not believe it.

I wonder if Zach regrets the decision to go to PXG

If you get rhabdo once you are prone to it.

There may not be a problem at all but clearly Zach thinks there is one ... based on him tossing DG under the bus

ZJ's perception - if he rarely drinks - is understandable

Probably depends on the number he wrote down.

I bet if he could go back in time, he would of stuck to what he was using when he won the British Open. Zach never switched putters his whole entire PGA Tour career, some guys are not big club switchers and I feel like Zach falls in that category.... you can tell a lot about a guy just by the number of putters he has used over the years, and very few players have used only 1 putter in 15 years on Tour.

I think I can find out pretty easily how much PXG paid Zach, not from Damon either so don't go chastise me and tell me what a bad friend I am if I do.

If this is true...than I would guess he is making no less than double what Titleist paid him and probably more than double.

His caddie introduced him to PXG clubs?

No! Damon was pretty opposed to the switch, especially the driver... Zack's driving stats went to sh*t after he switched away from Titleist. Damon was very vocal about it too, which I know PXG was not happy about.

Why did Zach switch to PXG in the first place?

Because Paige Spiranac made a hole in one with her first shot using pxg...

Stinks for Damon. He's making less because Zach isn't playing as well as years's past. He "lost" a couple hundred K per year.

Surely he won't look at it like that, landing a very good PGA Tour player's bag for 15 year period is a great gig even with a few leaner years. He's getting very good money to carry someone's golf clubs.

You’re right, but the PXG switch most likely cost him money too

Fair enough, but Damon was very vocal after the switch that the driver was not working.

Not doubting you. Zach isn’t going to say, “Everyone on my team was behind the move besides my stinking caddie...”

Canʻt help but think PXG Bob living in Cedar Rapids and having a financially successdul company there may have influenced his decision to switch. Maybe they have known each other for years. I doubt money was the only factor dor switching clubs.

Yes they knew each other back before Zach made it on the Buy.com (later Nationwide, then Web.com Tour).
