MP18 Blade / SC Combo vs JPX 919 TOUR

SvenS3

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

I tested the Mizuno MP 18 Blade and SC and of course the JPX 919 Tour.

In the 6 Iron I notice a difference in forgiveness between the Blade and the SC. Can't tell how good the JPX 919 Tour performed because only the 7 Iron Head is available from now on.

I always read that the JPX 919 Tour is more forgiving than the MP18 / SC.

I played MP5 from 5-P before and had no Problems with them.

I definatly don´t want to get the MP 18 Blade from 5-P, but I'm thinking of 5,6,7 in the SC and 8,9,P in the Blade, or going full JPX 919 Tour.

Did someone have any comparison Pics between the Blade and JPX 919 Tour for the 9 Iron or Pitching Wedge?

What would you Guys think, that has tested or gamed both?

I feel like I can game both easily, but will take the extra forgiveness if its there.

Thanks for you Opinions as always.

Can you tell me what you dislike in the MP18 and what you like in the 919 Tour?

own MMC/MB combo and 919T. The 9-P look slightly better in MB, but tough to go wrong either way, 919T look awesome, more forgiving, closer to MMC.

again, not a wrong decision either way.

Forgiveness closer to the MMC? That would be awesome

All about the same with the nod to MMC.. It depends on sole and offset when comparing the 919 and 18's. 919's much wider with more effective bounce even though bounce numbers are the same...

I play 3-6 MP 18 SC and 7-P MB. First off let me say that I absolutely love them and have finally found something that I enjoy as much or more as my MP 69's and my Nike Vapor Fly Pros. I have hit the 919 Tours on several different occasions both before and after purchasing the 18's and like them also but my personal preference is the 18 and I can't really quantify why. I was getting a few more yards out of the 919s over the mb's but it was negligible. For some reason I hit the 18's better. As for the SC's, I really haven't deciphered any more forgiveness than the mb's but that may be simply because I have them in the longer irons which are inherently more difficult to hit. Just keep in mind that I and many others have expressed the same sentiment: that the SC's aren't very forgiving. (There are quite a few that have experienced more forgiveness, too, so it's probably a personal/mental thing either way). Either way it's billed a player's club and that's what it seems to be.

I happened to run into the Mizuno rep Wednesday and we talked for a pretty long time. He was pretty convincing in what he was telling me. I can sum it up easier this way:

MP 18 MB not forgiving

919 Tour slightly more forgiving but not much

MP 18 SC about equal to or barely more forgiving than 919T

MMC noticeably more forgiving than SC

He also said the 919 Tour and 18 mb perform almost identical and have almost identical feel, so the determining factor should be whichever you like better, feel most comfortable with or have best numbers with. I would totally agree with this. If you can't figure which is better for you, the answer is simply which ones your gut tells you.

Let me know how it works out!

I'm thinking of 5,6,7 in the SC and 8,9,P in the Blade

This is the exact setup I played this past year after getting fit, and I love it! That being said, like you a full 3-PW set (or 3-4 in Forged mixed set) of 919 Tours has piqued my interest, so I will be interested to hear what others say.

The 919T fit between the SC and MMC. I find the Tours as forgiving as the MP5s for me. From what you have said OP, I would go full set of 919Ts. ;)

I went in for a fitting a few weeks ago wanting to get the JPX 919 Tours. I ended up getting the MP-18 because the launch was higher for me. I also hit the SC and MMC and didn't notice a difference.

Yeah, I like a complete Set better, than a Combo set. Just for Looks.

I gamed MP5 with MP25 (5 and 6 Iron). Than brought the 5 and 6 Iron from the MP 5 too. It was a small difference for me in forgiveness.

I will try them again.

Looks wise I found the 919 Tour a little more compact at the ball, which is good. I found that the SC is not really small. All my old Mizuno Iron-Sets are smaller

I’ve played around with all of these irons, and was at the range yesterday hitting multiple buckets with an old 900 forged 7i against my MP33 and a 919 Tour.

It could just be a factor of how poor my poor strikes are, but I struggle to find massive differences in what you might call ‘forgiveness’ between the SC, the 919 Tour, and even the MB. They’re all great clubs, but a far way away from game improvement designs. I think it’s much more about looks and comfort with shape, offset, top line, etc. and dare I say even finish.

It's definitely GolfWRX's issue, when you hit submit, nothing happens, doesn't take you to your new post, nothing

leave the poor guy alone

The 900F is an often overlooked iron, checks all boxes, have 2 sets.

Just for the record, I hit the 919 forged and the MMC worse than the SC and the 919 Tour.

For me smaller Heads and Toplines work better than bigger Heads (more GI Heads).

Maybe just more confidence in smaller Heads, because I grew up with them. Same in the Fairway Woods

Tested again today.

I'm very impressed by the JPX 919 Tours, they are super easy to hit. I had my Srixon Z765 with me and I hit the JPX 919 Tours better. Way better contact, and the misses are better.

That was a surprise for me. It seems like a can't miss the JPX 919 Tours. Only really bad swing get what they deserve.

The Mp18 SC is also very good. The comparison is not fair, because the 919 Tour is a 7 Iron and the SC is a 6 Iron. I can easily game both.

But the JPX 919 Tours grow on me, such a perfect Head Size (maybe its the color).

I will have two more Sessions and than decide which Shaft I will game in one of the 2 Heads.

When I hit the Mp-18s they just felt "dead" to me. It's a club I wanted really bad, but it just wasn't meant to be. The 919 Tours...they felt soft, easy to hit, consistent, and with the Modus shafts smooth as silk.

Interesting, the 18's give me great distance. I hit a 240 yard 4-iron and a 210 6-iron last round with no wind I could discern, which are both off the charts for me by like 20 yards or more.

The 18MB aren’t short at all, I actually have mine delofted 2* and they are very easy to hit as it is.

I do like how the 919 has less offset than the 900 but no set 3 iron and fat sole is a major downer for me.

I have no issues with the ground interaction with winter golf at the moment, actually ironically, I’m striping my 3 and 2 iron the best in my life lol.

I need to hit the 919 Tours, but I know that the MP18 MB’s were a much better fit for me versus the 900 Tours.

And now you have me thinking about going back to Mizuno blades...

I’m not a huge fan of mixed sets but, I have used all.

The tours are decently forgiving for their size and design and ingest. The MBs are just gorgeous and offer no help. SCs are same story but a hair more help is offered.

In my mind, you can’t miss with either. You might like a blended set but I don’t care for them. I need the same irons in a set.

Everything says play the 919 Forged, until I hit it. After playing MP's since 1990 I thought I was going to shatter a bone when I flushed the boron. And then I hit the 919 Tour! High, long, straight, penetrating and stop like a butterfly with sore feet. A 205 yd 5 iron over the trees to a back pin was my defining moment. I don't play mixed sets. With the 919 Tour, neither should you.

haha, I am not a typical wrx'r and don't actually own/buy many sets but I have actually owned both of these irons (i have owned 2 sets total in 4 or 5 years).  IMO your issue is not the clubhead but the shaft perhaps and technique.  there isn't much difference in performance between those heads if any at all.  The 919t has more offset in the short irons and might be a tad more forgiving on the very toe side of center but that is it.  were talking minuscule differences if any at all.
