Reshafting i210s?

Recommended Posts

I bought these ferrules from Billy Bob which fit perfectly but are not the same length as the Ping original ones.

https://www.billybobsgolf.com/product/ping-g-series-2018-2019-iron-hybrid-ferrules/

Not a major problem but I only did 5-PW of my set so the 4 iron ferrule will be different which really elevates my OCD.

Anyone know the reasoning why Ping does narrow the bottom part of the hosel?

They hold the head and insert the shaft in a device that pheumatically hammers the shaft into the bottom section of the hosel.  Done so that the club can be handled immediately without the head or shaft turning while curing.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I am going to be reshafting my i210's in the next few days and have a couple of quick questions...

When you guys removed the shafts by heating the hosel with a torch was there any discoloration of the hydropearl finish?  If so, how did you remove the discoloration?

I have reshafted my ISI's a couple of times and recently built a set of G5's for my wife.  When taking the ISI's and G5's apart they would get a "brownish" tint around the hosel from the heat of the torch.  I just rubbed the hosels of the ISI's and G5's down with some fine scotch brite and original color was restored...  I am concerned about disturbing the hydropearl finish of the i210's with scotch brite if they discolor...

I've played around with my 5i and had about 5 re-shafts without issues.....these are used heads and I bought them heads only.....

1. PING's are one of the easiest clubs to reshaft - torch and a slight twist and they come right off. Don't overheat as the head travels down through the head and could loosen the glue that holds in the CTP. Keep a bucket of cool water close by.

2. Reshafting PING's does not void the warranty. They will still do other work i.e. loft, lie, CTP and refinishing.

3. Use these ferrules: https://www.golfworks.com/ping-glider-wedge-oversized-ferrule/p/pgc009/ they work perfectly for iBlade, i210 etc. Minimal turn down required.

These are perfect for Glide wedges: https://www.golfworks.com/ping-glider-wedge-oversized-ferrule/p/pgc003/

4. I use this https://www.golfworks.com/hosel-cleaning-abrading-sanding-sleeves/p/crmwc/ and this https://www.golfworks.com/hosel-honing-wire-brush/p/gw1060/. I use the brush first (don't use while hot because it will melt the bristles) and then I use sanding sleeves. It preps the hosel perfect 100% of the time.

I'm thinking about reshafting my i210's with MMT's. Do you know if you can/need to pound the shaft to get it in the last little bit of hosel depth?

Thanks!

The i210's have the necked down hosel at the very bottom.  It's easy to defeat that feature when working with graphite shafts by sanding down the shaft tip a tiny bit at the very end of the shaft.  That's what I do.

that's a good idea! I've heard it's about a 1/4 of an inch, does that sound about right?  And how much are you talking about taking off? a few mm's? Thanks in advance!
