Remove Putter Grip Paintfill??

Recommended Posts

just use some black model paint and fill in the letters. i'm unfamiliar with that grip but i painted my SC CNC grip a while back lime green. it was pretty simple. let it dry and clean up with some paint thinner.

It's fairly easy to remove paintfill from Pure and IOmic grips. Acetone on a Q-tip should do the trick. Golf Pride and Lamkin grips are much harder to remove paintfill for reasons unknown to me. Acetone is ineffective against them so I've had to use lacquer thinner instead. Even with lacquer thinner it was a laborious project and required a good amount of elbow grease.

So far the Acetone isn't working. Will keep trying and update.

Acetone worked on a Pistolini for me, rubber was unaffected.

somtimes it may need to be soaked in acetone, before it completely takes it all out.

I believe its the mixture of clay and other materials other than rubber that soak the actual paint in. Pure grips are made of strictly California rubber. Iomic has their rubber "IOMAX" elastomer resin.

I guarantee this will take it off. However, I wouldn’t spray it directly on the grip. Spray on a paper plate or something you can toss after use and use a toothpick to dab in the paintfill area. After a couple minutes take the toothpick and flake the paint off and rinse.

I was able to get the letters off with acetone but it was a pain in the you know what.  Will this stripper make it a lot easier or am I still looking at the same amount of elbow grease?  I just wanna black out my pistolero plus grip, not add any paint.

letter paint removed with acetone.
diamond blacked out with sharpie (these don’t usually last)

Looks good like that! No matter what you use it will be a pain to remove all that white.

I have used gel paint stripped in the past. Very easy to use

How did you apply the acetone to remove the paint from the letters? Thinking I might do it with the grip I just put on my putter to give it the blacked out look on the new black shaft. IMG_4877.png.52b2d6e50371572fd837cb4d61b17e8d.png

Aw man, how or where did you  get that grip?  Thats the one I’ve been trying to get, but Scotty is always sold out.

I used q-tips and  toothpicks and worked letter by letter.

I dipped the q-tip into the acetone and went over the letter briefly with some force first to get the acetone in and allow it to breakdown some of the paint.  Then I took the toothpick and worked to “scratch” the paint enough I could see some (not all) flaking, coming off (my thought to weaken it and give the acetone spaces to get in and under it).  Once I saw that, I went back to the q-tip dipping it once again into the acetone, but this time working vigorously to get majority if not all of the paint removed.  At this point all I could see were small bit here and there and I’d go back and forth between the q-tip and tooth pick til it was gone.

plan on using at least 1 if not 2 q-tips per letter.  The yellow will bleed into it, so stop using that side when it’s pure yellow.

I’d  also recommend having some cotton balls ready.  Dip them in the acetone when you finish a letter and wipe down any of the bleeding yellow. Reason say that is that the red bled as it was breaking down and since I didn’t do that as I went, it was a lil more work after it had dried.

good luck!

and seriously if you can recommend where that grip is available I’d appreciate it 😊

I have a buddy who is a club pro and very good player that has qualified for a couple PGA championships and thus gotten to indulge in some of the finer things during the tournament and he snagged this grip for me last year. Just had it sitting in my golf cabinet waiting for the right time to use it. I have only ever seen it anywhere else once and that was on ebay. several months ago

pls post a pic of you black it out, really interested to see how it comes out.

Will do! Currently still waiting for the putter to come back from having the shaft coated. Was told if I got it to them right after the new year they could have it done in 1-2 weeks. After 2 weeks I emailed for a status update and he said his finishing guy quoted him "2 more weeks"😡 but he would try to get him to get it done quicker, been a week and half so far. Weather looking decent this weekend and would really like to go out and play, be nice to have a putter. lol

Is anybody actually looking at the grip paint when putting?

Well it’s normally under your hands so probably not. We golfers just love to tinker though.
