Back in the saddle shoes again

Recommended Posts

Well, after several months off I am back to playing golf again. The pain is manageable, and I am committed to a minimalist bag now on a trolley. 6 clubs. Started downsizing my collection again, so I am down to one cart bag with a full set of moderns, my hickories, one partial vintage set, a guest bag, and a Sunday bag. My regular 6 club set is up in the garage with my three wheel cart. Everything else goes. Might keep some spare wedges, just in case I leave one somewhere. Have only made it out for two 9 hole rounds but I picked up right where I left off so I am please with that.

Hope everyone is/has been well. Cheers!

Glad to hear that you're back at it again, Doug. So we've both made it back as I have finally gotten around to playing as well. It has taken me a little longer to get playing with a bit of confidence though; as in five rounds to date (of the nine hole variety). I'm a ways away from playing 18 in one go, but I did manage to spend about an hour on the practice green yesterday and follow that up with nine holes this morning without incident and playing pretty well to boot.

Sadly, I haven't even looked at a vintage club in nearly two years now. I have a couple of sets worth in storage, but it has been stricktly modern since the injury. The old stuff is just too heavy and too stiff for me now. I might have to consider a set of woman's clubs but if I could run across a set of Hogan Radials with Vector 2 shafts that might be about a better compromise. Not sure what would fly for woods. Doutful that my PB Citations with Dynamic 3275B's would work.

My problem is LOFT -- Lack of friggin' talent

Wish I had the power to thin my herd---- I do give some stuff away to fellow enthusiasts and I have absolutely no problem with that. A lot of my stuff I can not bear to part with.

Hi everyone! Hope you all are well and have survived the panicdemic.

Since I wrote last, it's basically been one injury after another. I won't bore you with the details. My lovely wife wants me to play for my health, so I'm going to continue in spite of the pain.

Got two 9 hole rounds in within the last week. One at the executive course and one at the home course, which is longer, very hilly, and very spread out. Modern clubs both times, but only 10 clubs.

Sorted thru all my golf balls & equipment today. Currently have 1 modern set, 1 5 club Suday bag, 1 60's vintage set, 1 hickory set, and a few extra bags and pull carts.

Next round is going to be the 5 club set: 4w, 19 deg metal wood (TM cleek) cut down to 5 iron length, 8 iron, PW, Ping putter. Using a low compression ball.

That's all for now. Again, hope all is well with y'all.

Glad to hear you are back again old buddy----- I can relate to the injury thing Had a accident at work and a mirid of back and shoulder problems. Start PT today on the shoulder. Will more than likely be out of golf action until September. I do get out some to the course and sit around and BS and putt some with a broom stick putter

Sorry to hear about your accident. Stinks getting old. While I'm laid up again, I'm working on regripping my hickories that need it and applying linseed oil to a few. Hopefully I'll be ready for my annual hickory round on my birthday with our son. Been chipping in the backyard with the pup, who has caught one on the fly. She sure loves golf. Never had a dog that got that excited waiting for the ball. Her latest trick is to steal the ball on the backswing! Lol.

Hope the shoulder heals well.

Thanks old buddy--- I am not to the swing phase yet--- I am putting some with a broomstick putter. Your dog story reminds me of my first Boston Terrier. She loved a golf ball period. One day I was messing around with my 60* hitting popper flops. She was jumping and catching in mid air. Now mind you I was pretty good with a 60* in those days because I practiced and / or played every day. I got caught up laughing and playing with her. Then it hit me I could skull one and kill her. I quit right then to her dismay. Went up to Wally World and bought 6 whiffle balls. Resumed play a few minutes later. She did not know the difference.

@Dcohenour great to see you back in the "saddle" again. Golf here in Chicago has been pretty sporadic with different opening rules between the county and City. Chicago Lakefront re-opens today for limited use (thankfully golf included). I hope to get out with our league group in the next few weeks. Hope the pain and injuries become manageable for you.

Just an older guy with 7 or 8 clubs and a MacKenzie Sunday Walker bag
