"Carts due in by 8pm!"

I just got back from Gatlinburg, stayed at Bent Creek Golf Village.  We checked in at 2:30.  Got unpacked, had a beer and headed down to the clubhouse at 3:55 to play 9 holes.  This is after the time change so it does not get dark until nearly 8:00.  We were told that they were on winter hours and we could not play either walking or cart.  We were not happy.  Never had that happen in 14 years of staying there.

That happens to me just about every year at Myrtle Beach.  And this is in May.  Finding a course to allow you out after 3:00pm or so is not an easy task.

Some courses do seem to hate money a bit. Surprising how many in resort areas close down everything by 3 pm even in May when there's plenty of light and warm weather. I get it if you're a middle-of-nowhere resort that relies on seasonal staff only there June through September, but often one place will be shuttered with nary a peep to be heard while another or multiple courses down the road/across the island/etc have full dining available and rounds going out until 6 or 7 pm. That's always been a bit strange to me.

Their course, their rules, doe.

I’m down in Myrtle right now. Have been surprised that so far 2/3 courses have closed at 2:30!! Caledonia had a sign for a reduced rate on a second round if you wanted to play again the same day, and they still had groups lined up when we finished around 2.

Yeah, it's awful.  I've found that the Barefoot courses and Legends courses are pretty good about allowing twilight rounds.  Other than that, they are tough to find.

I’m just guessing, but are those courses riding only?  And being in that area a lot of water for someone to drive the cart into?

I would bet it’s one of those cases where a few ruined things for everyone. Someone was told time for carts to be in, they pushed it, stayed out later and got into trouble. Courses probably finally said, enough, we’re just going to shut it down early and take away the opportunity for those issues to occur.

It sucks for the majority of the people who would abide by the time.

Do the courses close at 230 (IE everyone off the course at 230) - or is the last tee time out 230? I've played some 6 hour rounds in Myrtle before so the 230 last time would be...odd...but somewhat understandable.

Used to stay at Legends and the best part was being able to use the range at night.

The last time I was in Myrtle we were in the parking lot getting ready when a couple of carts drove to their vehicle after their round. One guy was so hammered he fell out of the cart and couldn't get off the ground and his buddies had to put him into their van. They were Canadians (as am I) and all I could think was why go all that way just to get loaded, he probably didn't remember anything about his round.

Had a similar thing at the BO in 2015. Wife and I were out in the stands furthest out and there was a bar underneath it facing away from the course. A few guys whio had American accents spent about 2-3 hours at the bar and I doubt they watched any of the golf. Seriously, why bother going.

I'd bet $$ that it's not that players stayed on the course too late but too many bro-tastic incidents of beer golf.

Getting blind drunk isn't so great to begin with, and why you'd do that on the course is beyond me.

It's none of those things.  The course workers just want to go home.  We've been told as much.

Unless management allows them to and then sanctions the rules as well. 🤷🏻‍♂️
