Cleveland RTX 4 vs. CBX

Norboo

Recommended Posts

What are the main difference?

I know CBX is more forgiving, but by how much?

Is RTX 4 more accurate? If so, by how much?

Anyone test both? What did you end up with and why?

I own one of the CBX wedges. All my other wedges are 588 style Clevelands. Was going to just sell it before I tried it thinking I don't want a cavity back wedge, then I tried it. It's kind of stupid how easy it is to hit. I find myself using it from all kinds of crap lies where I would worry about making good enough contact. Now it's my go to club for any green side shot that seems dangerous or low chance of success. 9 times out of 10 end up with better result than what I hoped for.

Totally different wedges. The CBX is really as close to a can’t-miss wedge as you can get. I like it as a gap wedge to use for all sorts of regular and trouble shots. Works from any lie. (I also think the CBX Launcher irons are way underrated. Unusual to see clubs like those without huge offset.)

I game the RTX4 58 low grind for greenside shots if the lie is tight. Low profile sits great behind the ball. The CBX is much bigger but it is not hard to aim. It depends on what you are looking for. If confidence is low, the CBX is a booster. The RTX is a blade wedge, but a step up from the RTX3 IMO.

I have CBX 50, 54 and 58, but I don’t need the 54 and 58. If I need to flop a shot, I can easily flop it with 54 just as well as my 58. I was thinking about getting the 56 mid RTX4 and drop the 54 and 58 CBX. I agree, CBX is can’t miss type of wedge, but I wanted little more control and versatile in a higher loft wedge.

Have played the cbx since it came out. Loved it at first. From a lush lie, you can't miss. Powering out of rough, same deal.

Thin lies? Way too much bounce. Completely unusable.

I'm about to get rid of the cbx and move into a 58 rtx4 with low or xlow bounce.

Why not try it? The RTX4’s are really strong designs, very versatile. CBX is a highly useful weapon when you need it and I could see playing one or even two as my gamers, but I want at least one more ‘surgical’ wedge, even if I don’t always have surgical skills.

Set down behind the ball, the RTX4 just looks easy to slide the club under the ball. The mid grind is a perfect sand wedge.

I had a hard time pulling off some of the touchy tight greenside shots with the CBX 58 compared to the RTX3. Wanted to replace the RTX3, and gain a boatload of forgiveness but hasn't worked that way yet.

I have the RTX-3/CBX Combo. There is a version of the RTX-3 that has a cavity back. If you're looking for a blade style wedge with some forgiveness, these may work. They have a slighter larger face than the RTX-3, but less than the CBX. Same groove technology as the RTX-3. I find them very easy to hit and control. Maybe another option. You can also get them very inexpensively, $US 70 ish new.

Looking into buying a couple of these wedges for my bag soon and I'm stuck between the two.

Can anyone suggest which would be better for a mid-handicapper? I'm thinking of going down the route of a 50° CBX for longer wedge shots and a mid grind 54° RTX 4 for shorter pitches. Based on anyone's experience would this be a good idea?

I have the CBX in 50* and 56*. Great clubs. But you have to be committed to the shot with them, using the bounce and being a bit aggressive. Even with chips. Soft and delicate swings/shots will probably be bladed city for many especially on tight lies.

I think the CBX wedges are great for full shots, and most stuff around the green. If you really have to manufacture something or pick of a tight lie than I would give the edge to the RTX.

I play the Cleveland Launcher irons and love them. I can afford to play pretty much any set and nothing knocks the Launchers out of my bag. I paired them with the Project X LZ shafts and I hit long, mid-flight shots with so much ease. I have a couple of the CBX wedges too and go back and forth between them and my TM Tour Preferred wedges depending on course conditions.

I don’t know what it is with the CBX but I can hit it out of the thinnest and most gnarly lies possible. I bought a 56 new last year and loved it. But my OCD doesn’t allow me to mix brands in wedges so I traded it in.

I picked up a 54 and 60 a few weeks ago off EBay. I then bought a 50. I also have RTX4 in 54 mid and 60 low. I’m trying to decide if I go CBX 50 then RTX 54/60. Or put my i500 50 and go CBX 54 and RTX 60 (I’m leaning here).

My 54 is mostly for full swings. It’s a comfortable 110 and 120 if I step on it. But chipping and short pitches when I compare CBX 54 to RTX 4 54 it’s not even close with CBX coming in miles ahead. The RTX has the ball coming out much hotter and distance control is an issue. Although the grinds are similar I still don’t get the performance out of RTX as I do in CBX. With as humongous as the sole is on CBX you wouldn’t think it would be good in tight lies requiring a delicate touch but for some reason it’s far and away the best club I’ve ever used for those lies.

I picked up RTX4 in 56*, feel is great, smaller head, very versatile but seems much heavier than CBX with the same shaft. I need more time to get the full feel of it.

**ANYONE know when the new CBX 2.0 will hit the market? Any info on the newer CBX wedges? **

I picked up the 56* last year and have to admit that I was not a fan out of the gate. Used Vokey's for probably 2 decades and the switch took some getting used to. But now that I have spent some time with it, I have figured it out and really enjoy it. In hindsight, I probably should have purchased the 54 & 60 but to be honest, I have no issue flopping with the 56.
