I disagree.

Spearing used to be taught to be totally taboo back in the day.

Coaches would make you crab around the whole field if you did it.

Guys used to be taught to wrap up, now too many just going a big hit. Although, the ability to strip the football these days is amazing.

I agree with your disagreement :)

Every level I ever played or coached at, spearing was discouraged - and not just on head-to-head hits. Good way to hurt yourself or someone else. Just ask Ryan Shazier.

When I coached, I used to call the lack of tackling "Lawyer Milloying". Laying your shoulder into a guy and expecting him to just fall down for you. Milloy was a fantastically talented guy, big hitter, but incredibly overrated because his tackling sucked. So many guys do that these days it's ridiculous. I still think the Pats beat the Eagles in the SB if Belichick plays Malcom Butler. He wasn't a particularly good cover corner, but he was a superb tackler, and receivers breaking tackles and getting first downs was ultimately what did the Pats in that day.

One time we were watching films on Monday of the Saturday game and this kid on our team is shown spearing on a kickoff tackle.

Coach rewound and played it like 50 times and called the kid a “mental midget” over and over.

Then, they made him crab around the whole field in the dark ; )

Yea, he is decidedly from a bygone era however I. Ant for the life of me understand why he hasn’t adapted cuz this very well could cost him his career cuz the raiders have an option on him next year and aside from the $4.2M in fines, and that number may well include his game checks for the remainder of this year as I just read that number today and then Stephen A. chirped it though aside from the fines and suspensions, he’s just a horrible teammate cuz he’s cost his teams games, both regular season & playoff games and his meltdown against the Stillers in that playoff game when Cincy has that game won, no ifs and it doubts about it and he still didn’t learn.

That is just selfish and I listened to Shannon Sharpe talk about him and it was funny cuz I was thinkin exactly what Shannon said and he disagreed with the other guys, none of whom had Played HS ball, much less college or Pro and they all said that he’s waaaaay too talented to Play like that and how great he’s be if he just Played the game within the rules.

I got into a disagreement with a guy over at the club who said basically the same thing and I think that he’s very insecure mentally about his ability to Play the game within the rules cuz this goes back to his HS days and he obviously lacks the self confidence to believe that he can Play the game and hit and tackle within the rules. Sharpe said the same thing.

He has the mindset of a bully and if he is not allowed to tackle that way, mentally, he has lil confidence that he can compete, like when a bully gets smacked in the mouth and sees his own blood, it’s a game changer and usually lights out for em.

He HAD to know that the next head shot was gonna be a season long suspension and with his track record and age, it could very well be a career killer.

That didn’t seem to matter to him.

Yes, he hits like those guys that you pictured however those guys were all Champions, All-Pros & HoFers and could’ve adapted to today’s game, because they had strong strong mental games and Played at the line, occasionally crossing that line though that was usually to make a point, such as Lambert’s body slam of All-Pro S Cliff Harris when he mockingly patted Stiller K Roy Gerela’s after a miss, or when Joe Greene, tired of being held with no flags as the word was that he was so unstoppable that refs looked the other way when guys like Howard were draped all over Greene, so he dropped the Bronco’s Paul Howard with a single punch.

Oh, and for those unfamiliar, think of a 6’4”, 275lb ripped version of James Harrison with a nastier edge, and ya had Joe Greene.

He’s far and away, the Baddest Man to EVER don the black’n gold and forget Jack not being able to carry Joe’s water, he couldn’t carry his jock strap.

And Jack will tell ya that if you ever asked him.

Joe was a lot nastier than Jack, and he didn’t have four Pro-Bowlers, three of em All-Pros and one arguably the greatest GOAT DT, protecting him and giving him room to run sideline to sideline.

A great DT/NT is an ILb/MLB’s BFF, haha

No song was ever more appropriately named for a Player...

Oh yea, just heard, that $4.2M in fines was PRIOR to this season long suspension~

You can add $5M+ to the 4.2M, lolol

Whatta putz?

Have a great week?

Now that Thursday Night game was entertaining to the max. I have been a fan of Russel Wilson for a long time. The man is just a high caliber stud.

4 td's in Prime Time!

Awesome

I don’t think that he even realizes the scope, depth or severity of what he’s involved in...

Cheers?

Unfortunately, the squeaky wheel does get the oil, or into today’s warped world, the pub and the spotlight, however it’s guys like Watson who keep my faith that some of the younger generation “gets it.”

So over on the NFL Picks Contest thread I tossed this up.

The pro prognosticators have all the great stats. I did not pay for the service as I heard it on AM Sports Talk radio

Thought I would share it on this thread as well. This info helped me make a nice hit on my bookie. :p

@touch said: original post # 134 on the Picks thread

My Week 5 Power Picks

Minnesota -5 Captian Kirk has a solid rebound game. His career record following a loss...73.0 Comp % - Passer rating 111.4 - TD-INT 12-2.

Green Bay + 3 1/2 A. Rogers slings a handful of td's down in JerryWorld with his much improved Packer defense helping to keep it a close game. I'll gobble up the 3 and the hook.

Arizona +4 The Bungles are as horrific as the Deadskins. The Red Birds get the 'W" outright in this contest.

and my post just now at the conclusion of the game.

Well the commish has called his first two picks perfectly....lol...how did that happen?

Arizona gives up 2 fourth quarter td's yet still wins outright against the Bungles.

My boy captain Kirk lit it up against the Gmen. YAY!

He goes

85% comp ---

22 of 27 for 306 yards

2 td's 0 picks and a

qbr of 138.6 wow

While driving to work one morning this week I was listening to a sports radio host. Said host shared some amazing stats on Cousins. On 4 pm games and MNF games Cousins ( entire career) is like 4-26, seriously. Yet at any early 1pm game he is so much better. Cousins is astoundingly more victorious in early games regardless of home or away. He also added that after a loss, IN A 1 pm START, he was incredible. Those stats ( after a loss) were in my original post.

He said he loved this pick and man was he right. He isn't a top tier qb, but my MSU boy and fellow Michigander did me right today as I had some nice cheese on the game. He too apologized to his receiver corp. earlier in the week. That was ridiculed , but I thought it was a class act from a classy NFL player.

Cheers Captain Kirk ! Thanks as you made this dude very happy today.

Dak wants that 40m/year. Might want to reconsider. The guy can’t carry a team unless everything clicks.

> Well, there goes KC's 16-0 season (which was almost a guarantee if you believe their fans). Great game plan by Reich and the DC (Eberflus?).

Yep, Matt Eberflus. He and Reich seem to get the most out of the players they have, and also can make in game adjustments.

I'm as big of a blindly loyal Colt's fan as you will find, but even I didn't think Indy had a snowballs chance of winning at Arrowhead last night. I was just hoping they could keep the score respectable.
