If I were the Steelers front office, I'd send Tomlin and a 4th round pick to the Redskins for a bag of well-used practice footballs.

 

That trade would be a HUGE win for the Steelers.

An avalanche of egregious penalty calls. Or lack thereof. However, 97 passing yards in the last three quarters. Five FG’s instead of a couple TD’s. Crucial dropped pass in the end zone. Twelve men on the field at a critical juncture.

 

Have to remember who was playing. Oh so very Lion’esque. SOL. The “Curse of Bobby Layne” still in effect.

The Lions definitely had one of the most Lions drives ever last night after their offense sputtered and got a short FG....

 

Kick OOB, gave up a miracle 20 yard pass, def holding on 3rd and 5, hold them to FG attempt, 12 men on field for a first down, allow the touchdown

 

Of course, two bad call illegal hands to face calls on 3rd down later in the game led to 10 points for the Packers and the win.

 

But I'm sorry, the ref thing is a total nightmare. I don't think the league has fixed it because they simply don't know what they can do. With every play scrutinized in slow motion, the TV broadcasters dying to find mistakes, and an audience that eats them up I don't know if it's possible to make it right. But then the fix they tried is terrible because they aren't overturning hardly anything, even when obvious.

 

They need to decide if they're rather get things right or save face - can't have both.

I agree that the NFL needs to fix officiating... I also think that every sport needs officiating help...

 

Maybe a new crop of officials... focus on making the correct call instead of making refs look good

On a more serious note, I’d be very very surprised as unless Tomlin gave the ok and wanted to make the move, that’s not the Rooney way, even though the grandson, who’s now at the helm, is a dbag and the idiot of the family.

 

Tomlin knows that he has a good stable thing here and unfortunately, in my eyes, due to the injuries this year and Playin their #3 QB, he’s gonna get a pass, as long as they make all of their charter flights, show up at game time and have on the appropriate colored jerseys.

 

Tomlin deserves Snyder??

Officiating is taking a beating, and not deservedly so. These blown calls have happened since the introduction of officials to the field. The problem, and higherground touched on it is the replay, the analyzing, the computers and the technology. We all know the speed of a baseball, well, it isn't any slower for the umpire than the batter, yet he has to ascertain exactly where it traveled immediately, and everytime he does it there is an announcer with the white box indicating the strike zone questioning where the ball went.

 

Same with football, soccer, hockey, and I don't know about basketball, but refs can no longer make a call based on the game but rather what the guy who is watching it in slo-mo thinks. We are asking for the impossible and also creating the mistakes because of the reticence.

 

Put into golf perspective for a second. If I have a 150 yard shot to a tucked pin with sand in front, water in back, and OB and I think, "Don't go..." it almost assuredly is going to happen. Can you imagine 100 times a game having to make a snap decision with doubt in your mind? You are compounding the mistakes by putting unrealistic expectations on a human being, and frankly, sports are being ruined because of it.

Yeah, I don't see him going anywhere. Nobody in sports gives more leeway to their coaches than the Rooneys. Stability is their philosophy. Literally any other franchise in any other sport, Tomlin would have been shown the door ages ago. He'd be a fool to go anywhere else.

 

Which means he's probably already negotiating his new contract ;)

This has probably been posted and is old news however this kid’s story is just incredible and this article doesn’t tell a fraction of it~

 

Though he ultimately did not make the Brownie’s squad, he still beat greater odds and achieved more in one year than most men do in a life time~

 

Call it irony, karma, poetic justice, whatever you’d like, however if he never has another vid snippet to show his grandkids, he’s got this vid, shot on the world’s largest stage, and I don’t care that it’s a pre-season game.

 

To even have suited up in a Professional uniform was a miracle, consider his road travelled, and when is the last time that you ever saw a team, any team, empty their bench to congratulate a guy for a pre-season punt return, even if it was an 86yder, lol.

Thanks Richard for posting this. I did not hear of the outrageously determined young man. I watched the video and wow. I was trying to think what was running through his head as he was walking up the sidelines and through the Browns bench getting all the praise. He had a pretty serious look on his face. I came up with " I knew I had it and now have proved it to myself and all here tonight." I wonder how it is to catch chucks coming from the jugs machine standing on the big soft ball? wow! I don’t think that anyone has gone further, at least at the QB position, with less, than Joe Flacco.

 

He was anywhere close to Rich Gannon either talent or production wise as the most illustrious QB to come out of Delaware, though he got the ring and he got the big contract because of the ring, lolol. He should thank the big guy every night before he closes his eyes that he had one of the 3-4 greatest defenses in the SB era in the locker room with him, lol??

 

I’d also take Mike Adams(S) over Joe as having a more illustrious NFL career.

 

The best thing that could ever be said about ole Joe and if I heard this one more time back in his Baltimore days, my friggin head was gonna explode, and that was that Joe could “manage the game,” lolol

Gannon, on the other hand, was an elite talent, and for a 2-3 year period, the Best QB in the game.

Nah, no one ever went further with less production and talent than ole Joe Flacco.

 

I wish we could’ve gotten Adams, he hit like a freight train. I believe that Troy’s tacklin ability was greatly greatly overrated as he missed more than he made cuz he was always launching and leaving his feet and off balance, however Mike Adams was great underrated.
