Exactly.  I have a golf trip planned at Big Cedar for the end of this month and if you aren’t actually staying at the Big Cedar Resort you can only make tee times at their courses for exactly 30 days in advance.  Not a day later or sooner.  So for instance if you were to make a tee time today you could only make one for 9/29.

I find policies like this infuriating.

Threads like this (and this forum generally) make me think there is much more of a drinking culture whilst playing in America. Drinking after playing is certainly a thing in the UK, but whilst playing, not so much in my experience.

The only time I ever drink on the course is if I am playing a scramble or out with a group of guys for a bachelor party where I don't put a premium on scoring and just want to kick it and enjoy some drinks with buddies.  It's just a needless distraction during my normal rounds when I am trying to stay in a rhythm and score the best I can.  It's not even really just the drinking but any food/beverage from the snack stand.  I eat before and after I play and just take a Yeti Rambler with water on the course.  I'm way too concentrated on playing to even worry about food or drink.

Another opinion of mine:

All the major golf club manufacturers make great clubs.  Buy what fits you or simply what you like the look of; whether it is Ping, Callaway, Taylormade, Srixon, Mizuno, PXG, Titleist, Cleveland, Tour Edge, etc.

Mostly agree, though Taylor could stand to up their QC.  Seen too many broken clubs from them.

I think it's more troublesome to walk and drink alcohol and play.  Much easier to drink if you sit in a buggy with cupholders.

In Indiana it’s a State law, alcohol must be purchased on the premises and none to be brought to the course.

Yet I’ve never have seen it enforced.

Being diabetic I bring sugar free Gatorade and water all the time as to not be forced to buy sugary drinks. Never has been a problem at any course.

It is supposedly the law in SC too but alcohol laws are screwey in this state from county to county. But what is funny our State Law Enforcement Division enforces all alcohol laws. To be candid the state is very hyprocritical on this. They may fine a place for violations but unless there is a lot and I say a lot of violence and drugs in a place rarely do they take away alcohol licenses. They make too much tax revenue. Footnote the Mayor of Myrtle Beach her and her family own the biggest beer distributorship in the area. Yep all the locals especially us outside Dirty Myrtle call her Budweiser Brenda or the Beer Baroness Mayor

I wonder if this is a fairly recent policy? I played Payne’s Valley early this summer on a whim, made the tee time less than a week before playing. In fact, I think the policy was no tee times more than a week out for those not staying at the resort.

Im not sure as this was the first time I tried to book a tee time at a Big Cedar course.  Online I noticed there were no tee times available for virtually any date so I called the pro shop at one of the courses and he said that tee times were only available for people not staying at the resort 30 days prior to the day you want to play.  Eventually booked one at Buffalo Ridge for 9/24 on 8/25.

FWIW in response to the above post. I drink on the course every time i play unless its before noon.  When i walk i generally take a beer per side.  If im playing with friends in a cart we always have a couple per side.  Nothing crazy

LIV is the best thing to happen to the PGA tour in the modern era.

It has taken 75% of the d-bags off the tour and now we won’t have to watch them in the majors or give interviews after tournaments

If you haven't played Buffalo Ridge before, make sure you go to the back tee on Hole 15.  It is a fantastic view.

How can you guys square your opinions on 1 and 2? LIV's motto is literally "Golf But Louder." They have music blaring at all their events, and live music afterwards.

I understand that there's a difference between an entertainment product and a recreational activity, but surely if LIV continues to succeed in its current form, "Golf But Louder" will bleed into our nice and quiet recreational activity.

1 is live and I think it’s serving it’s purpose to get the tour to freshen up it’s stale product.

2 is golf instructors make the swing too complicated. This is very true.

there is no contradiction between 1 and 2

1) Tiger Woods is a terrible person and total fraud

2)The "Tiger Affect" was ultimately bad for golf

* This was NOT his fault however.  He was used as a vehicle by huge corporations and corporate money that would ultimately leave the game creating a huge money vacuum causing the closure of courses and many of the smaller equipment companies to no longer exist or exist only as stamps on foreign made goods.

3) Club and shaft fittings are a gimmick and will not lower your scores unless you are better than scratch

4) The Fed-Ex cup is stupid and needs to go away

5)The profesional Golf season should start with the masters and end with the PGA

6) Metal spikes should NOT be banned.  If you are too stupid to walk across a green without damaging it YOU should be banned.

7) Push carts are for pussies and the elderly

8 ) Growing the game of golf is BS.  There is nothing wrong with the size of golf and there never was.  Growing the game is corporate code for "we need to find a way to make more money to feed our greed and pay the investors".  You didn't hear people bitching about "growing the game" before the mega corps like Nike, Adidas, and Puma came in and bought everyone up.

9) Golf was better in the 80s

Rant over...great post by the way OP

Gotta say, in a thread with an annoying amount of very popular opinions I love this. Even though i disagree with almost everything, this is what we're here for

I agree with #2 wholeheartely------ And most gurus think their way is the only way

#1 I am kinda torn over just say for me I personally am on the fence. I am tired of the bickering and the press keeps stirring the pot---

I drank a 15 pack of Miller Lite and shot a 77 last week.  I impressed even myself.  Had a shot at a 75 but doubled 18.

That was rare though...i was celebrating some truly excellent news about a heart procedure my father had that day.

Generally Im good for maybe or 3 a side if im in a cart with buddies.  Walking, which is how i generally play im good for 1 a side.  Exercise and beer dont mix and my home course is a bear to walk.  I love it though...golf is truly better on foot.

I cant stand loud drunks and music on the course.  You want get drunk fine...i have no issues with that...ive been known to pull a cork myself but keep it together.  Dont act like a 15 year with a fake id.

Paige Spiranac isn't attractive, at all. She's like a 1/10.

LPGA events are much better to watch than the men's.

Loads of rules are stupid and should be scrapped, like having to drop from knee height, like the 'drop right on the edge of two club lengths on a downslope twice and then you can place because it rolled outside of the permitted drop area' - just let them place FFS.

Hitting off mats is pointless.

Hitting indoors during lessons is pointless.

Watching golf swing videos is pointless and probably damaging.
