"Can't read the whole quoted post and being forced to scroll back and forth to check everything that was written"
There is a "down" caret in the bottom center of the quoted text that opens up the entire quoted text. There is then an "up" caret to re-compress the quoted text. Android also.

"The (almost) hidden list left of the "Comment Field" with all the functionalities, which are three clicks away as opposed to being readily available at the top of the comment field"
Top or bottom, same or similar amount of clicks. It's in a different place. So ?
"The 15-second browser freeze when the system auto-saves the draft every single minute (that's 25% of time spent writing a reply)"
You must have a slow connection. On Android and on desktop it's about 1 second, sometimes 2.

And from @Mr. Bean "And no possibility to underline words unlike before"THIS is the most glaring oversight. Incredible that THE most used accentuation ever of a word, phrase or entire sentence is omitted from the editor.

"Can you please provide some screenshots ?Halebopp's issue - "Cannot edit quoted posts."

This item has been mentioned a number of times since the overhaul of the site.

On the OLD site, and every other one I belong to, the quoted text came up within the "comments" box and was available to be edited. The current poster would then delete any and all text he was NOT responding to so the reader could see what he was responding to and then type his response UNDER the quoted text box (as now).

Now, in THIS case, since one can clearly see your entire post the reader knows what I am replying to. So really no need for me to "copy and paste" your quoted text.

However when there is a LOT of text in a quoted post, since I can NOT edit the quoted text to point out what I am referring to, the same reader may have NO idea of what my post is responding to within reading the ENTIRE quoted text - and who wants to do that ?

Soooooooooo, the common method (now), as I did above, is to copy and paste the line(s) the poster is referring to FROM the quoted text That is the ORIGINAL post as the quoted post cant be copied either) and bold it/them so the reader can now see what my post is referring to.

The caret (yay, I learned a new word) beneath the quoted text doesn't do anything for me in the "Leave a Comment" field and the "View Post" link doesn't exist at all For me the bullet points, indent etc. are three clicks away as opposed to being one click away at the top or the bottom of the page.My connection is running at 56/41 Mbps at the very moment. Definitely fast enough to save a draft in less than 15 seconds

LOL - You're not the only one who learned something new today. I never realized that "double vertical" to the left of the comment box was a "text handler" when one clicks on it. Never used it. I thought it was just marking the line i was on (within the comment box).

Guess I never used bullet points, indents, etc.

You're right. The caret only works in the original post, not in the one you're quoting. Sorry I wasn't clear on that.

My cable/wi-fi is running at 200 Mbps but as you say, 56 should be more than fast enough to save the draft in FAR less than 15 seconds. You're on the other side of the pond though. Wonder if there's a hiccup "down the line" somewhere ?

The shortcomings of the new quote system and the WYSIWIG editor occur in every browser and device. And have been brought up as problems in more than one thread in this section.

The scrolling problems definitely happen on iPhones and maybe other phones. Chrome for me. Someone on the wrx team needs to experience it to understand it.

( edit )

scrolling problems described in this thread...with a link in post to another thread about it too.

Issues may effect multiple people but can’t be consistently replicated and why detailed information must be presented to diagnose issues. All issues need to be clearly identified and define to programmers to troubleshoot.

Editing a quote is a longer term issue and not related to bugs. That is also a more philosophical discussion as well. It is on the map to be editable but no eta.

Scrolling is an example probably related to some code, possibly ad sever contributing, but define not solely, and I cannot replicate nor can others. We have heard of this issues with older devices or insufficient resource issues with browser or device like chrome books.

auto save we have looked at turning that as opt in, instead of default.

That's what google speed test tells me.

Here in the states the cable companies seem to keep bumping up the download speed whenever they feel like it regardless of what you're paying . I'm not complaining. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Here's one scrolling issue for you.

iMAC Desktop CHROME

I hit the gear button in the upper right hand corner of Post 32, then clicked on "Edit".

Instead of opening up my post and leaving me there to edit it, it took me to the bottom of the page (Comment box)

Now THAT is what I call SERVICE. I just edited to add "CHROME" and it worked perfectly. Box opened "right there", I edited it and clicked "Save" and the page remained right there !!!

Couple of things. (Desktop, iMAC, CHROME)

First, I clicked on "Quote" on your post quoted above. It did NOT take me down here to the Comments Box - I had to scroll down.

Second, what does your post mean ? Does this mean one has to (now) "Opt In" to autosave content, as opposed to that being the default ?

If so, is that because a few recent posters keep seeing autosaved posts and cannot (BUG) erase them on their mobile and are too lazy to poke around, find their drafts and then delete them ? So for that WRX is going to inconvenience everyone by NOT autosaving their posts ? TERRIBLE idea. Autosave is extremely valuable.

Ask ANYONE who has ever spent any sort of significant time typing on the 'net and then their computer goes down, or they get an electric surge and the computer reboots, or they accidentally hit the "Back" button and lose all their work. So now, before I hit "Post" I have to "copy" my entire post ? You know, just in case something (else) happens ?

And how would one "Opt in" anyway ? I looked through some of my profile settings and it's not obvious.

Ah, yes...when hitting the edit gear. On iPhone it will scroll way back up to the post that is being edited. A few minutes ago, after I hit edit, it almost gave me enough time to start typing my edit and WHAM...the screen quickly scrolled up to the post.

( edit )

when editing this one, it didn’t scroll up to this post. It scrolled way up the thread, taking the edit box out of view. Then had to scroll back down to the edit box.

@Gxgolfer Desktop iMAC CHROME browser
Technically not a scrolling problem per se but the links to the post where the quoted text was originally are all messed up.
I'll call this "Version 1" - the "https" links within the quoted text are ALL(?) wrong
In Post 29 you will see @easyyy quoted by Halebopp. Click on the link in the quoted text. It does NOT go to easyyy's post, it goes to another Halebopp post.
Same issue in Post 28 where Hit 'em quotes the same post; same problem.
Bottom line - sometimes the link works and sometimes they don't

"Version 2"
See Post 54. Mr Bean is quoting ME. Notice anything ? The link is NOT there (hence Version 2)
Why is there no link AT ALL there ?

"Version 3"
"View Post"
Take a look at Post 23 - instead of a link, there's something in the lower right hand corner that says "View Post". If you click on it, it's wrong. And in THIS case, so is the DATE (link)

Now there IS a bright side.
For Versions 1 & 2, if you click on the DATE within the quoted text it takes you correctly right to the post.
Post 55 above is a great example. Click on the link and you go way up. Click on the DATE though and voila', it's right there at the top.

Version 3, that is when "View Post" shows does not seem to work at all- at least not here in this thread.

So, net-net, the DATE seems to ALWAYS be correct EXCEPT is "Version 3/Post 23 above when "View Post" is also present.
Of course I don't know why the link placed in the quoted text is wrong so often but if the programmers re-program that link to the SAME as whatever "link" is used for the DATE it should always be correct.
When the URL/link is shown in the post you will find that the URL generated by clicking on the DATE is DIFFERENT, hence why the DATE works and the link doesn't.

ONE person (that I recall) mentioned a "15 second "freezing". Post 29 in this thread. And that from someone on the other side of the Atlantic - more links in that chain.

For most(?) others, as myself, it's at most a second or 2. Hardly noticeable.

So what happened to Drafts? A long composition I was working on was lost in the ether because it wasn't backed up to drafts as has been the norm. And I've tested the observation with this post. Waited 15 minutes and was not auto-saved.
