I love golf but could not agree with you more. It's bad enough folks (especially young folks) can't apparently even take a walk and maintain social distancing. Then for golf one adds at least some inevitable accidental touching of such as part of the flagstick, cup, limited handwashing opprortunities on course, etc. For ranges, folks will handle the practice balls at least using a driver. This is serous s....t folks and I can't believe folks asren't taking it more seriously and that courses are staying open.

looks like pala mesa is no longer open, no official email/website but no longer able to make tee times. Goat hill as well.

 

As an aside i played pala mesa yesterday, felt great to be able to get out and i 100% believe playing a round of golf even on a busy course is more than ok. HOWEVER it seemed like half measures were taken and defeated the whole purpose:

-people queued up around the pro shop to check in/head out

-putting green and driving range open where everyone was touching everything

-people queued up and eating around the snack bar

Anybody know of any courses in the San Jose area that're open? Going to be here for two weeks and I brought my clubs with me, so I'm hoping that there's a few that have held out.

Made a tee time for Friday afternoon at Arrowood in Oceanside...I'm wondering if the courses that are staying open are maintaining the courses as usual or just doing the minimum to keep the lights on...?

I think everyone is maintaining, just most aren't open to public. Walked Torrey south this evening with the family, and it was freshly cut.

pala mesa fairways and greens were maintained as usual but rough was shaggy, i played oceanside on monday and same thing. im hoping to get out on arrowood sometime this week as well but i would imagine most courses are following the same as i dont think they have their full crews out there.

 

Just to double check with you, you know arrowood is walking only yeah? i knwo theyve posted it a ton of places but some buddies played the other day and said a lot of people didnt get the memo and were pissed when they showed up.

Yes, I'm tracking that Arrowood is walking only. Honestly, I'm only concerned about the maintenance of the greens; sounds like it should be just fine.

played 9 yesterday afternoon after work, pretty much what i noticed at other courses, fairways and greens are getting mowed like normal, rough was a little shaggy but nothing crazy or anything.

 

one thing to keep in mind is they aerated beginning of last week. everything is coming back great, the rain we have gotten has helped that process along. they arent 100% yet but not dealing with a ton of sand, rolling pretty true just slightly slower

I think it is stupid if they close golf course. Worse case - keep them open for walking. Who ever stands less than 6 feet to anyone when walking and if you do, then just follow the guidelines. No different than walking in a park and practicing safe distances.

This stuff is getting way overblown. Have to be able to some stuff outdoors....

Our club, says no touching flagsticks, no raking sand, no ball washers, etc..... If you can’t do any of that, then don’t golf. But then people that are not, are probably not doing social distancing anyhow. People have to learn how to use common sense, but nope, too many losers that always have to ruin it for everyone else, that follow the rules for anything.

Looks like JC Golf has closed their entire network...Oceanside courses appear to be the only game in town in SD County...

Looks like Oceanside turned off their courses...effective tomorrow, Oceanside Muni and Arrowood are closed.

I agree. We played Balboa the day it closed, and they had the system down, packed!

Walked in, read my city card number to pro shop cashier. The credit/debt card terminal was on the desk for patrons to swipe card. Two boxes, one labeled 'clean' the other 'dirty' with about one hundred pens. Sign receipt and use clean pen, then put in dirty box. Place receipt in box. Worker then uses clorox wipes to clean pen. Walk outside to starter/first tee. Play. Raised cups, no rakes, etc. The entire time, I did not come within 10 ft. of anyone, nor touch anything.

The political pressure for the courses to close because the non-golfers were jealous, angers me.

Sacramento is pretty much the only county in California that deemed golf an ‘essential’ business so yes I believe courses are open.

There’s golfing in Placer and Nevada County. Golfed three times in the last two weeks and have two tee times coming up this week.

Placer County just shut down golf courses until May 1st.

Can we just have a moment of silence to recognize the pain of the folks here in the Bay Area where the weather has been perfect, nobody has to go into the office, yet all courses are closed? Ugh.

So I live in the East Bay Area and I've heard of people getting fines for going to the Beach in Santa Cruz and stuff like that. If I were to travel to Sac to play a round, is there a possibility of getting fined? Has anyone heard anything?
