Smithworks wedges? Anyone have a review?

I’ve been thinking about replacing my SM7s looking for more spin...looking at Glide 3.0 but came across these. Anyone have any experience with them? They have a confirming and non confirming version. At $160 each though, I’m weary to pull the trigger.

check out Sub70's wedges.  I had a good phone conversation with Jason there about wedges.  Really helpful.

I’d be hesitant just based on their comparison next to the SM7, there is absolutely no way that is an accurate test if the SM7 is spinning almost 5000 rpms less. If they are going to lie in their marketing at least make it somewhat believable

They probably didn't tell you that SM7 was out of a used bin with worn grooves ??

I have 4 of them in my bag, 48,52,56 &60 degree. I love them, most of the time. When I hit the ball right I get a consistent high flight that stops dead on the green. I do need more practice with them since I tend to hit them thin and pay the price for a bad swing.

I just stumbled across this post. I have a Smithworks laser etched 58 degree lob wedge in the bag for just over a year now and have to say it's probably the best wedge I have used. Ping, Callaway Vokey, Cleveland, Scratch etc I personally find this as good as anything.

The weight is slightly heavier than most but that is something I really like plus the performance is excellent and consistent. I'm just about to replace it with the new Copper version that is out. Freshen up those grooves.

I'm a little late to the party here but I got myself a 58 degree Smithworks wedge late last golf season.  I'll keep this short and simple; yes the wedge created more spin than I was capable of with any other club and it did dramatically reduce my roll out on approach shots.  BUT there is a price to pay in that I have not found a ball that can withstand the clubface.  I've had balls that had a hangnail-like piece of the cover hanging off the ball after just one hit.  I've had other balls that withstood a handful of shots before having the same thing happen.  I don't know how much this matters but I happen to live in Canada and I was surprised with a small but annoying customs import fee when my wedge came across the U.S. border.  I can't understand why they couldn't have shipped it directly to Canada and I don't even know if that would have saved me that fee but it did make the club that much more expensive and when I look back and take it all into account, I would not have purchased it had I known what I know now.

Are you using the Laser Milled (Conforming) or the Cast Milled (Non-Conforming)? Was thinking about getting myself a set of Laser Milled ones.

Good point, I should have mentioned that in my original post.  The wedge I was talking about was the non-conforming model.  I'd also like to mention that since that post I picked up a Cobra Snakebite wedge and I am thrilled with it.  I've posted the Smithworks online for sale but so far not even a sniff lol.  Anyway, good luck and I'd be interested in hearing what you decide to do!

I'm sorry to hear that you got one and aren't happy with it.  I hope for your sake that you are from a bigger market than I am and you won't have a problem selling it.  I have had mine online for sale on and off for months and got nothing more than two low ball offers.  But there is interest out there, so if you are in a larger area you shouldn't have a problem selling it.  Good luck!

I have one of non conforming wedge I won here and it has over 10k spin rate. If you don’t mind having no conforming equipment in your bag and your golf balls getting destroyed it is worth trying.
