was ready to buy one of the new rapid taper shafts, but $24 shipping for one shaft seems really steep. Not sure why they only offer one day shipping, I'd wait a few days to knock off a bunch off of the shipping. Maybe they'll be carried by Golfworks again someday.

Shipping is what is holding me back from giving one a go as well. Yes, I know it's ridiculous to let 25 bucks or so stand in the way as much as we all spend on golf equipment. I guess for me it's just a matter of principle thing to spend (in my case) almost 75% of the cost of the shaft in shipping. After tax I would be right at $80 for one shaft. 1755019387_Screenshot_20220905-222654_SamsungInternet.jpg.3df424513f2f99c25798197763bc3a81.jpg

Right? I recently sent a set of irons back to PXG for $16. (of course they charged $60 to ship them to me, lol)

You guys just need to buy more shafts to make it worth it! 😂 $100 worth of shafts would make that shipping charge feel a little more realistic.

i can only imagine what the price would be for Canadians??? @Bad9

Not likely to be cost effective if you are paying to get one shaft shipped. The shipping is likely the same whether you order one shaft or 10, right? I think that is the point @Colejis making. That is not so unusual. If you send a box of that length via UPS or FedEx, it is going to cost you &25-$30 if the box is empty. Those are the prices right now. So get more in the box.

PXG charges $30 if you order one item, $60 for two or more. If XCaliber is charging $31 to ship a full set of shafts, that is competitive.

Hi,

I have an Srixon 8-iron with UST Recoil 95 F3 at 36.5" playing length with the grip. The swingweight is D2.

I replaced the Recoil with a Rapid Taper 95 regular, as the weight and flex are quite similar. However, after following the tip trimming instruction and butt-trimmed to 37" playing length (same as my 7-iron) with the grip installed, the swingweight is C5!!

Just wondering if anyone needed tip weights with the Rapid Tapers to get their swingweight to normal D0-D2 range. I thought the C5 was due to the design of the rapid tapers with more weight towards the butt end.

Thanks!

Reviving an old thread to see where people are at with these. I pulled the RT 115 wedge from my gap and I’ll be putting in a regular 105 as soon as Popeye and I can work out our vacation schedules. It just felt terrible, probably a combination of too heavy and too stiff for me.  I will now have a blended set of RTI85’s starting in the 6 iron up to RTI105’s in the PW and Gap.

I feel the same as you regarding the 115. The 115 has virtually no feeling for me. The spin 100 feels excellent on those partial to 3/4 wedge shots.

I talked with Popeye about putting in the 100, but it only comes in stiff and you can’t soft step it since it doesn’t require any tip trim for standard install, so he recommended I go with the 105 in regular.

Dang. I just realized the 105 is out of stock.  Anyone know when they’ll be back in stock?  With the steep shipping $, I’d rather order everything at the same time.

I dont know exactly how many grams per inch these are, but the blank for the 105 is 43" and the blank for the 95 is 41". Based on my experience with other graphite parallel tips, I'd bet that at cut length, they're only a few grams apart. So you may be able to just do the 95 throughout.

I really like the 95-R in my 6i, so I’m considering using it in my 7i then transitioning to 105-R+ in 8i. Question- what’s the trimming needed to equal the flex of a 95-R?   One or two soft steps?

I did the 95-R in my 6/7/8, then 105-R in the 9/P/G.  These were installed in Maltby TS3 heads, so they ended up being 1" longer than would be needed for most iron heads, but final cut weights were: 6i-83 grams, 7i-83 grams, 8i-84 grams, 9i-95 grams, P-94 grams, G-94 grams.

Good info, thanks.  How does the flex compare in the 95 vs 105?  Did you have to adjust the tip trimming to get the same flex between them?

I thought they felt about the same, I tip trimmed all of them for straight up regular flex based on their trimming instructions.  Start with .5" for a 4 iron and trim an extra 1/2" as you go, up to 3.5" for the pitching wedge.

Great info. I'd been wondering the difference. This is interesting. They must be very tip heavy for them to be that far apart given their different blank lengths.

Also interesting that at a full inch apart, the 8 iron was a gram heavier than the 6 iron. The blanks must have been a couple of grams apart.

Sadly, I forgot to weigh them all before I started the build.
