Power in the swing.... Arms? Legs? Core?

You cannot generate sufficient hand speed without the back & core muscles involved. The throw down comes from the core, the stability or counter force supporting it comes from the legs. If your on your knees, it's actually easier to remain more stable. If you generate X Newtons of force, your legs have to stabilize & counter it with -X Newtons or else you'll whiff the ball. Dynamic balance. That's why great legs matter pretty much in every sport.

Bryson says he's always trying to get his entire back stronger which has contributed to his prodigeous length off the tee.  He maybe onto something.  Lately I've been focusing mainly on strength on my back/bis days in the gym.  Body weight pull ups with a belt around my waist slung with 25-45 pound plates.  Lots of heavy rows on machine and with dumbells, bent over rows and heavy deads along with my speed training.  I'm also including 8 working sets of barbell and machine shrugs.  Should be interesting.

after focusing on balance, core and stabilizer muscles first, i've recently begun incorporating movements that worked well for creating explosive power in the baseball swing.

 

e.g. fast and heavy sets of 4-8 reps with bent-over dumbbell rows, single arm cable rows, and hammer curls, to name a few. 

 

too soon to tell for sure, but the swing has been faster/more powerful after a couple of weeks of consistent work.
