Very Confused about the differences between ProV1 and X

This is a fascinating thread.  So I’m one of those guys who buys and uses the gently used slash “refurbished” prov1x golf balls at Walmart etc for about $25 bucks per dozen Canadian which is about $40 CAD less than a dozen at Golftown not including the 13% sales tax.  So can I assume if I box of balls at Walmart on the shelf now would be the “post 2017 switch”?

You look at the alignment mark and it will tell you the year of the ball. Most will be 2017 and 2019, but could be anything.

Very nice......yeah, the 21x compared to 19x definitely "stands up" more and less stable FOR ME into the wind....19v1 definitely flights lower/ more penetrating.....but again ,I need best possible stopping power and very happy with 19x 

 

I MIGHT try a sleeve of 21v1 but I'm kinda dialed in with 19x ......but please keep sharing thoughts and insight!

For what it's worth, here's a 6 iron test (i210, 31 degrees) between 2019 ProV1 and ProV1X I did the other night. Ball flight almost identical, minor differences in ball speed and spin rates. Yeah, I felt like Matt on TXG.

Yes, the online fitting, it was pretty cool. I wish I asked for the Tour Speed not the V1x

Left dash firmest and lowest spin compared to the v1 and v1x.

One problem with “refurbished” golf balls is that you just don’t know what you’re getting. The cover is repainted/recoated.  

 

Do do yourself a favor and get recycled golf balls, as they will be better.  Lostgolfballs.com and similar sites sell varying grades and brands of used balls.  Even the lower grade balls are better than the refurbished and the prices are better too.

Still lots of guess work. A ball that been under water for a few months plays way different than one that was for a few days.

 

If you can find practice balls that is good value option
